God is One

God is One, what does that mean in practical terms?

Does that mean everything is God. I'm God, you're God, the cat walking down the street is God?

Or is there some technical nuance I'm supposed to understand, like the cat is God but at the same time not God?

There's this idea of omnipresence. Does this mean that God God exists fully in the being of the cat or is the material body of the cat not God and God exists within the cat as some immaterial aspect?

When I was trying to figure this idea out, I thought maybe, since God exist outside of time, that perhaps God takes turns, experiencing existing as each conscious entity in the universe just experiencing the separate existence of everything that exists at that moment. Like an actor playing two different fictional characters separately but though the magic of movie making both characters appear on the screen at the same time.

When you say God is One, what do you mean by this?
I know the cat believes it's God...and your not.

Practically it means that you need to go back to English 1A and listen more. Or it just means strict monotheism :D.

When people as a whole say "God is One" I am primarily thinking of Islam but that is my bias. I just think it is s bloated term that has no true meaning and should be left to people who love liberal religion that lacks principle.

Even a polytheist like me cannot fathom the notion that gods are so many things but never gods.

So god is the entire universe...let's just call it the universe, then
OK with me - and calling it God is also OK with me...whatever makes you feel better.

But my comment was really following the OPs "I'm God, you're God..." which reminded me of Robert A Heinlein's line 'Thou art god, I am god. All that groks is god.' from Stranger in a Strange Land. IOW it was literary quip rather than a statement of faith on my part. @sandy whitelinger got it in one: God is One

No. God is not one with the universe but a maker of it who is beyond time space and matter in his divine essence

God is 'one' - 'one' here from the Torah is echad ( also used of 'one' clump of grapes or the two shall become 'one' flesh in a marriage

Yes, I'm seeing this as a bit of marriage between Eastern and Western beliefs. I have heard this idea of pantheism from some Christian preachers, but I guess my biggest influence on this was Alan Watts.

It's easy to merge ideas between separate religious belief and develop a composite ideology. From this view, religions may seem to have more in common than they actually do.

You read the scripture of various religions without proper guidance who knows what concepts of God one might end up with.

Perhaps if you read a few scriptures, your question might be answered:

Maybe,

The problem I see with scripture is that the reader supplies the meaning to the words. The result depending on the reader's knowledge of the specific religion, knowledge of other religions and whatever composite ideology they may happen to have.

For example my son has an ideology filled with auras, signs, mind over matter. Right now there's exposures to hundreds of various supernatural ideologies. From all this information folks tend to create a composite ideology.

So he referenced to me Matthew 6:22 - “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, Showing this as proof of auras in the Bible, asking me what I thought of it.

To me, this is referring to Jesus talking about storing your treasures in heaven vs seeking after worldly possessions. So setting your sights on God instead of material things.

He got this from some internet reference with lots of mystical pictures.

Not judging, who knows the accuracy of my world view. Still relying on one's own ability to correctly discern meaning to scripture is probably not the most reliable way of going about it.
