sex and abrahamic religions

considering the so called Biblical heroes in the OT appeared to be at it like rabbits I don't know why some Christians have such a problem with sex!

I would much sooner young teenagers were taught that it was fine to mastrubate rather than jumping into bed on their first date!

There will be none if you don't tell them. Why do they even have a right to know? It's none of their business.

If you are over 18 your sex life is none of your parent's business. We were more than happy for our adult kids to sleep with their partners under our roof, why not?

Parents sometimes find things out whether you intend for them to or not. Also, I don't know how old the poster is, but if I had a child any younger than 15 or 16 I'd certainly think it was my business if he was sexually active. From 16 to 18, I might prefer not to know.

I don't think I'd have a problem with it, either, but not everybody feels that way. My parents don't allow unmarried couples to share a bed in their house to this day; lots of people don't.

well, simply put, why do abrahamic religions have a problem with sex?? its a natural animal instict that God has gave us so why do they choose to supress people's sexual desires until marriage..i have a religious family who frown upon such things and its really painful seeing other ugly people getting on at my age while im stuck waiting for marriage...

Sex is a beautiful thing that was created by God. God and people of abrahamic religions (Christians, anyway) don't have a problem with sex, but they do have a problem with having sex outside of marriage. It can lead to all kinds of problems, which I'm sure you know. If you aren't responsible or old enough to get married, what makes you think you are responsible and old enough to have sex? Just because all of your friends are doing it is not a good reason. There is a 13 year old girl in my grade who has gotten pregnant twice because she didn't wait. Remaining pure until marriage and saving yourself for your spouse will really just show how responsible, strong-willed, and mature you can be. After all, having sex doesn't make you mature. It just makes your boyfriend or girlfriend hang around for a few more weeks, makes you popular for a couple of days. So what? There are more important things.

There is clearly a much bigger issue as to why a 13 yr-old got pregnant twice...I would not say "because she didn't wait", unless of course you mean "because she didn't wait til she was a little older".

For the OP, abrahamic religions in this case are a control mechanism designed (by humans) to maintain a certain level of dominance/influence in the female population's breeding. As the religion is primative, it's not surprising that it's tenets are also based on man's primative desires to secure his mate's vagina for himself and no one else.

Either that, or the people who wrote the OT had really small penises (can I say that here?) and were afraid of premarital competition. As you know, it's harder for a virgin to compare a man's sexual performance to others when there have been no others.

Excellent post Anade, lots of wisdom there.

I might add from a Christian woman's perspective - sex outside of marriage is a big turnoff full of risks and pitfalls. Sexual intimacy within marriage is a turn-on.

There's nothing more satisfying to a woman than intimacy with her forever lover, the love of her life... partner, protector, best friend. When the anxiety or fear (of all the misery that can go along with sex outside of marriage, esp. for a woman) is gone, she is free to fully enjoy the experience.

I'm sure that's the kind of pleasure God had in mind when he invented sex. :angel2:

She got pregnant the first time because she did not wait to have sex. She got pregnant the second time because she was being stupid, she should have learned her lesson.

Ok, but you're missing the point. Clearly there are some major issues in her past (abusive or seriously neglecting parents, molestation, child rape, etc...something wrong in her past that psychologically damaged her). 13 yr-olds (in this culture) do not tend to have sex unless something really bad happened to them earlier. It's naive to think she got knocked up only because she "did not wait". That's like saying some 13 yr-old drug user started smoking crack "because he doesn't care about his health". It's not that you can't see the forest for the trees...you can't see because you're focusing on one little leaf of that forest. Get it? If not, I have other metaphors I can use...some of them involve polar bears.

Actually, I knew girls that came from fine homes, and they still had sex because they wanted to. There was no abuse or any psychological problems, some girls just do.

My parents didn't neglect me and I nearly did it several times. It's not always the parents, sometimes it's the children.

Well I can think of a few good reasons why God has asked us to save sex for marriage.

1. Too many young kids are having sex without being able to deal with the responsibilites of it. During the pregnancy families begin to fight and so do the two people who were having sex (who dont really love eachother), and now this baby is being brought into a world who's family is all messed up.

2. I have noticed that a lot of relationships get a lot more difficult once sex is involved (at a young age), the couple has a hard time breaking up even though they want to, and that is due to the sexual desire they have. The actual act of sex is more than just a physical thing it has a lot of mental aspects to it aswell.

3. When one has had sex before marriage, they are able to compare. If they have had tons of sex before marriage, and then go get married and aren't completely satisfied with their husband or wife... this could lead to Adultary. Aswell as the fact that if you go and have sex before marriage, and have done it comfortably once, this may lead to you doing it comfortably again, and again, and again, with multiple partners. This could lead to a whole other list of problems.

4. Tell me one time where an STD has been transmitted between two perfectly healthy virgins.

5. Did I even mention the Drama?

God knows it's natural. God knows we desire it, but that's why we get rewarded for not following through with it before marriage. It wouldn't make too much sense to me if sex wasn't pleasurable or desirable for God to reward us for restraining from it. It's all part of the test.

There are probobly a hundred more reasons, I could probobly think of a few more but I'll leave it at that.

Peace and Blessings

I agree. He also created the means to make crack. Should we enjoy smoking crack too?

You can enjoy sex as much as you want with you wife or husband. Now, me personally what other people do is not my problem and I don't even take someones sexual ways into consideration before making friends with them, I coud care less and it's their decision, but I've spoken to a lot of people who held out until marriage and they all say it's the best decision they've ever made. I know for me it would be very hard to explain to my muslim wife who's a virgin why I couldn't wait when she did. I would feel very guilty, because more than likely the girl I did have sex with probobly means diddly squat to me now.

Did you "nearly do it" at age 13? I think the extremely young age (13) is the major point, not the premarital status.

It shouldn't be to people who "live by the book." Many young women were married by that age at the time those supposed "rules" about sex where implimented into the Bible.

In Africa where children are born with Aids, because the pope will not allow the parents to use a condom. They may have got the disease through using a dirty needle when recieving medical attention, because lack of money. There are cases of virgins having STDs...

EDIT: I just noticed you said "two perfectly healthy virgins"...
