Are you an old soul, or a new one?

I really don't believe in this notion, and yet, if asked this question, I can honestly reply "New". Very new; I really WAS born yesterday. For whatever reason, I experience almost every moment as a total revelation (if I let that be).

I'm quite intelligent, but not at all wise - I'm so very gullible; I've been taken for many rides. I used to feel badly about this, but now I tend to just enjoy those awful rides. I mean, I'm 56 and I still get "taken", a lot!

Plus I've met a few who seem pretty bored with things, because they've known so much for so long.

Maybe it's all down to formative experience?

hmm. This is an interesting question. I really think I am a new soul, and here is my first opportunity in life. I am the age I am now and nothing else. Nothing before that I should say. Although, I don't know and I am not sure

New soul or old soul? Live your life indifferent to whether either is true. We may never pass this way again.

a late night walk about....and I caught my reflection in a glass window

ancient..... is the word

as a car came passing by slowly (speed bumps in the street)
I hopped up on the trunk to steal a ride

no one could see me
I was sure of it for the lack of reaction

a very old spirit am I.....

I might need a bit of clarification on how you are thinking about this, @kaat. I don't really use the word "soul" much. From my point of view, what you're talking about sounds like one's attitude or approach to life. Some the sense of wonder common to children into adulthood, or other qualities more common to children. Does this sound kinda like what you are getting at with your use of words like "soul?"

I suspect that the practice of being aware of constant change is intended to also improve the energy available for thinking. I suspect that there are some other things you can do to bolster this effect. For example if you force yourself to learn short cut Math, play Scrabble, Chess and memorize texts maybe you will enhance your ability to focus moment to moment. Do you agree? I am just curious about what you think.

Sure. Agreed. But see, it's never likely to be me first with that sort of over-arching viewpoint. I'm thinking your statement was obvious to you. Further, I'd guess that you might well have said the same when you were 16. Which gets perceived as "wisdom beyond your years". Equals old soul.

To pull up a minute; this gets into very personal territory, and I've sometimes pursued things I wish I hadn't. Ignore if you need

In the East, the number of lives lived during the reincarnational phase of existence is an interesting question. I've read up to 8,400,000 lives as a human being. If nothing else, it brings some interesting thoughts to me.

I do laugh when I see such precise numbers, LOL. It's not as if anyone can check the veracity of the claim.

Absolutely. And although I consider myself an old soul, I have never lost that childlike sense of wonder and curiosity. And may it ever be so.

If we go by this definition What Does It Mean to be an Old Soul? then I'd have to say I'm probably an old soul. I tend to not relate to others or feel like I fit in anywhere. I'm quite solitary and reflective. I'm going to go with the idea of gained experience rather than how long my soul has been in existence, because of a verse in the Bhagavad Gita (2.12). Krishna tells Arjuna "Never was there a time when I did not exist, nor you, nor all these kings; nor in the future shall any of us cease to be". I'm sure I've been incarnated countless times, but picked up a lot along the way. I've always been like a sponge for learning, though I have a very very long way to go.

Interesting link. I'd rather say that instead of young or old, I am an observer, rather than a doer. I suspect/believe that I have been a healer in many of my incarnations, and will be such again. But for now, I watch and learn.

Over the years I have been told by several people (including my father) that I am an "old soul" and a few have told me I'm a "very old soul"

An old soul may have all the answers, but no one is any longer asking the questions. On a more serious note, we spend our entire life becoming, the project is never finished until we breath our last.
