Just how long have we been making music?

As the owner of a music store, I found this very interesting. This flute made from a vulture bone was found in Germany. When reconstructed it was found to be in a pentatonic scale, just like we practice on our modern instruments. Only thing is ,this flute is 35000 years old.

Simply amazing. Imagine all the other instruments we could have conceived of that didn't survive the passage of time.

35,000 years is amazing. The more we learn about the past, the further back we find evidence of culture. Here there must be something profound about the pentatonic scale's effect on human emotions.

We make music from the day we are a twinkling in our mother's eye, to the day we die... So it is instinctual for us to make music.

Could imagine the first instrument would be drum sticks.

In my opinion. :innocent:

What? Me worry?
It would be neat to se someone try and work that in to their music. Maybe you could be the first.

There's a guy that sits in with us sometimes who's been playing for at least 100 years, lol. He plays about a dozen different instruments. Has played lead with us on "Dead Flowers" with a violin that was made in 1832; and he's played lead on "Can't Find My Way Home" with a plastic recorder. I'm sure he would love to get his hands on this.

At least as long as there have been humans. I think it's an intrinsic trait of us.

I wonder if the flute itself is 35000 years or the material it was made of is that old.
In other words, an old bone was later used, or much later used to fashion the flute.
In Genesis, before the Food, we find mention about Jubal at Genesis 4:21 being the father or founder of the harp and organ/pipe (as in flute) so that puts 'the making of music' going as far back as to the days of Adam. Oh, jubilation !
At your music store, what is most popular today. Mention of a harp makes me think of Harpo Marx, Wow he was great!

Guitar is definitely my best selling instrument. I hadn't thought of Jubal. It seems that making music is in our DNA. :)
