Liberals: Does what Jesus said matter to you?

It Aint Necessarily So

So John 14:6 is meaningless?

It is to me.

And what of the people who follow diligently? That’s big insult to them

Others must assume the responsibility for their own feelings and reactions. If you want to put it out there that you believe that such-and-such is true or real and will shrink in horror if somebody else disagrees, maybe you need to find another way to spend your time.

From what can be seen of Liberals, They don't follow the teachings of Christ Jesus.

This liberal follows a higher standard: His conscience. I find biblical moral standards lacking. Wherever humanist standards depart from their Christian analog, I find the latter lacking as I have already elaborated in part in a comment about loving enemies, turning cheeks, and being meek. Bad advice all.

Everything that Christ Jesus stands against, Liberals are found in embracing them ?

How so?
The last judgement gives us a good idea of the priorities Christ believed were important. The GOP opposes all those ideas.

Which party is most likely to support:

  1. Supporting feeding the hungry.
  2. Helping those who are thirsty.
  3. Welcoming strangers to the country.
  4. Helping those who need housing and clothing
  5. Help those who are sick
  6. Help those in trouble

It was the DNC who went out looking for the homosexualit for their support, it bill clinton back in 1993 that went to California for the gays Supporters and then bill clinton went to the East coast condemning homosexualit to get those on the East coast to support him

It's the DNC who supports the killing of innocent baby's in planned Parenthood.

It's the GOP that stands against the killing of innocent baby's.

Therefore everything that Christ Jesus stands against the DNC Supports.

Jesus said, "Render unto Caeser that which is Caesar's", ie. pay your taxes.
I find that passage interesting. It's presented as a dichotomy: "that which is Caesar's" versus "that which is God's."

I think that a First Century Jewish or Christian audience would have believed that everything is God's, leaving nothing left over for Caesar. Because of this, my interpretation is that this was a clever way of saying "don't pay your taxes" to his audience in a way that wouldn't get him arrested for subversion, since any Romans listening would have missed that message.

Please show me where Jesus said anything about abortion. Thanks in advance.

The GOP seems only to be interested in two moral issues; homosexuality and abortion. Now there are several verses on homosexuality in the Bible. There is only one verse in the Bible that, with a stretch, can be said to be about abortion and that verse comes down on the side of the mother.

The last judgement speaks to neither homosexuality nor abortion. It does speak to a number of areas on how we are to treat others, and the GOP supports none of those issues. I'd say that puts them on the left side of God, or on the goat side. Abortion does not seem to be a litmus test in the Bible for anything. Now, having said that, and before there are any hysterics let me assure you I am against abortion ... and unlike the religious right I am for helping the young, the elderly, the poor and those in need.

Talk about convoluted!
The coins will have Caesar's picture embedded on it and also denoted worldy wealth. Jesus was saying give this material wealth to the false God Caesar, and give one's soul to the true God who is without image and is the ruler of life.

Bad advice? Care to explain on my thread?

Because that's in the text?

Here's the whole episode. I picked the version in Luke, but all the synoptic gospels are similar:

Then they watched him carefully and sent spies who pretended to be sincere. They wanted to take advantage of what he might say so that they could deliver him up to the authority and jurisdiction of the governor. 21 Thus they asked him, “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach correctly, and show no partiality, but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. 22 Is it right for us to pay the tribute tax to Caesar or not?” 23 But Jesus perceived their deceit and said to them, 24 “Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription are on it?” They said, “Caesar’s.” 25 So he said to them, “Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” 26 Thus they were unable in the presence of the people to trap him with his own words. And stunned by his answer, they fell silent.

Look at the story: they're trying to trap Jesus into saying something that is consistent with his preaching but would be considered subversive by the authorities. He could have given a straight answer of "yes, it's right to pay your taxes." He could have given a speech like what Paul writes in the Epistles about how all authority has been appointed by God. He doesn't. Instead, he gives a response that can be taken two different ways.

Not only that, but he does it in a way that demonstrates that Herod's spies didn't properly recognize the sovereignty of God.

Deflection.

Plus, nobody supports killing babies, although the Bible commands the Hebrews to kill some, and tells us that we will be happy dashing them against the rocks.

"You were hungry and thirsty, so I eliminated funding for Meals on Wheels and food banks. You were a stranger, so I vilified you and demanded that you be deported. You were naked, so I called you an evil liberal who hates conservative family values. You were sick, so I repealed your only hope for health care. You were in prison, so I tortured you." - Matthew 25: 42-43 in The Conservative Bible

Look at the story: they're trying to trap Jesus into saying something that is consistent with his preaching but would be considered subversive by the authorities.

When I read the Bible, trying to understand It, the first question I ask myself about any given passage is not "What did Jesus mean by that?". It's "Why did the Gospel author include that?". What was the author trying to convey to his audience? Only by figuring that out can you get a sense of what Jesus' Message might have been.

To do that, you must be somewhat familiar with the culture and events of the day. Most Bible readers don't seem to care about that much. Instead they filter their interpretation through their own modern world view and what they have been taught by other modern authorities who do the same thing.

Also, realize how little of everything that Jesus actually said and did made it into the Bible. A tiny fraction of everything from a 30+ year life. What made it into the Bible is what someone thought important enough to include, so I tend to assume multiple layers of meaning for the most important stories.

This particular passage is a little perplexing, if it's just about managing your money. I think a more important meta-message is, "Jesus was a wily fox, the authorities tried to trap Him into betraying His teachings, by making Him choose between them and admitting to being an anti-Roman revolutionary. But He outsmarted them. You can outsmart them too! They seem invincibly powerful, but they aren't!"

It's part of the reason I believe that Jesus' ministry was as much anti-Roman social reformer as wandering preacher. That's why the Romans executed Him for treason, not because they cared about a theological squabble amongst the Jews.

The last judgement is recorded in the book of Revelation 22:15.
Who do you think are the whoremongers that are the third on the list.
A whoremonger is a Homosexual.

Notice what Jesus said in Matthew 19:4-5
"And he answered and said unto them, Have you not read , that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, for this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they shall be one flesh"
So Explain exactly how homosexualit fits into that ?

As for children, let's see what Jesus has to say about children.
Luke 18:16--"But Jesus called them unto him, and said, allow little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God"

So explain exactly how can children come to Jesus, if children are taken in abortions.
Go Figure ?

Seeing you have no clue what your talking about,
First no ones taking away healthcare, don't rely on the Government, get a job and go to work and get your own insurance, don't be lazy.
Have you have any idea what Jesus is talking about being in prison, this is not a common Prison as your thinking of.

Have you any idea what Jesus means by being sick. You take this as being actual sick in bad, you got to be kidding right.

Everything that Jesus is talking about is in the Spiritual Realm of things. And not in this carnal world that people are living in.

I thought I'd heard all the rationalizations for ignoring Jesus' words . . . . clearly I was wrong. I've never heard this angle, before.

Please share why Jesus restored a blind man's sight, gave renewed strength to the legs of the lame, cured the illness of the Centurion's boy, raised Lazarus from a 4-day death, etc., etc., and His apostles continued this work, if He didn't mean we should strive to do the same, and more, in this world/life for the love of God and our neighbors.
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. John 14:12

In that case I must ask you, what do the words 'tunic' and 'food' mean on this context ?
It seems clear enough he is not talking about a tunic in the spiritual realm.

Luke 3:10-Luke 3:14 ESV
And the crowds asked him, “What then shall we do?” And he answered them, “Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.” Tax collectors also came to be baptized and said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Collect no more than you are authorized to do.” Soldiers also asked him, “And we, what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Do not extort money from anyone by threats or by false accusation, and be content with your wages. I suppose that way of thinking does let you of the hook of doing any thing about anything.
A bit like Herod washing his hands.
God does not allow us to avoid our responsibilities as easily as that.
To do so are sins of omission.

Jesus was speaking to real people about real responsibilities.
