Matthew 19:21
Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

Matthew 5:42
Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

Luke 6:30
Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.

Matthew 5:40
And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well.

I see the God of the Old Testament as a Fascist. The God of the New Testament is a Communist. If every wealthy person followed Christs advice, wouldn't that be a communist dream come true? :)

Didn't Jesus' little band pool their resources and hold all things in common? Didn't Judas hold their collective purse?
Sounds pretty left-of-center to me...

The difference between Jesus and communists is Jesus and the Apostles gave what they collected to those in need.

That's what a communist is supposed to do. Where Jesus differed from communist practice is Jesus believed in God and preached "love your enemies"....

If communism wasn't atheistic and was as spiritual as fascism, a person could be a good Christian and communist at the same time.

There's a difference between doing and supposed to do. If a person was a good Christian they wouldn't need to be a communist. Communism is no different than any other, those in power keep all the best for themselves and give just enough to their minions. But in Christianity even the King, the Lord himself had no more than the lowest of his people.

So what did they live on, and just how did they "collect" it?

Is atheism and love of enemies a requirement, then? Couldn't a group live communally and still believe in God?

Yes but that isn't how the communist government rolls. They allow churches controlled by the government, but encourage atheism

Here's a really good video on Marx ideology and why it's so popular after so many years:

Jesus wasn't a communist. A bastardized form of proto-socialism, maybe. But even that's stretching it too far.
