Striking A Balance

I've been a Noachide for just over a year now and there is something that's been nagging at me for a while. I sometimes feel as though I am just outright appropriating Jewish tradition by using certain words, phrases etc. and sometimes this rubs me the wrong way. Because Noahidism is such a tiny movement and not really a religion as such, it's difficult even to create a sort of 'Noachide Culture'. Some on RF have confused me for being Jewish - mostly newbies who haven't known me for long - and I can see why. I don't want people to think I'm trying to 'steal' Jewish culture as it might be.

I wonder, is it possible to strike a balance with this?

Just keep doing what you do. Unless someone directly tells you that they have a problem with it, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I'm about half way done with my conversion and I already find myself using Yiddish and Hebrew phrases quite regularly. I think it's just something that comes with the territory.

Lol almost whenever something good happens to me it's 'Baruch HaShem! Baruch HaShem!' or if hoping 'B'ezrat HaShem!' And G-d is now always HaShem or HaKadosh BaruchHu. It's not 'Genesis' but 'Beresh i t' and so forth. 'T'shuva' has replaced 'repentance' and sometimes I have to put the English in brackets so others can understand if it's typed. I don't mean to do this in a sort of look-at-my-Hebrew way, but just an autopilot way I suppose you can understand! :D

Honestly, if we wanted to split hairs over cultural appropriation, then say goodbye to all the fun things we enjoy every day.

As long as one is respectful and open hearted, then just be true to yourself. If people still have a problem with that, then they can spin on it. ;)

I certainly would never have guessed that you have only been a Noahide for a year........
in a way I have been kind of headed in that direction for over forty years myself...... So you are making much faster progress than I have been.

If you think that you are having it rough.......
you will probably feel empathy for people from Japan who
feel a strong urge to find out more and more about the possible Jewish roots
for some of their religious beliefs.........
and perhaps for some of their ancestry as well.

What does the one have to do with the other? I mean, doesn’t being a Noahide just mean adopting the Noahide rules? If so, why would Jewish customs or Hebrew terms have to come into what you do at all?

I would just drop the language and cultural references and be who you are, be real, don't steal.:)

It's just something one picks up along the way through listening to Rabbis and associating with Jewish people. It's like how many times a day do you say Oh my G-d or Thank G-d, without really being aware of it? It's similar to that. It's also a sort of symbolic distancing from prior religion and lets others know what you're aligned with.

The way I look at this, if Noahidism is part of Judaism, then it makes perfect sense to make use of Hebrew words and phrases, especially when you're maintaining the proper context. There is no appropriation here, seen?
