What's Your Totem?

My totem is the Raven.

But as far as dreams, one dream involving animals that has reoccured is, I walk up to a mirror and look but I see myself looking back with human body in clothes at collar line and below, but instead of my normal head, my head is a blackish timber wolf looking back, with dark deep eyes. My timber wolf head is sort of large.

Another "animal" I have an affinity with is the Barn Owl.

So maybe I have 3 totems. But for sure, Raven.

Black panther.

We think alike on some levels but i have more than one. Most often a black panther, awesome animal, sometimes a snow leopard, and occasionally a honey badger.

For those who have not encountered this cute little critter take a look.

I’m mixed with Native American but I don’t know which Tribe. I’d say my Totem is a Moth, Dragon and Lynx <3

I like snow leopards and honey badgers also. I do tend more to the felidae than the mustelidae.

There are differences between Totems, Teachers, Guardians, Allies, Guides, Companions, and so on...unfortuantely, the differences between the categories, and even whether the different categories exist in any given system of belief, also varies a great deal...I've got several I've worked with over the 20 years or so, but I generally don't share...except in this case I think I have an affinity for Otter, but I'm not really sure what category it would fall under...;)

I am taking a class and in the class I have learned about totems. The teacher says there are seven so I have made a list. Right or wrong, these creatures have some special meaning to me.

In no particular order.

Puff fish
Bear
Snake
Frog
Owl
and Pig.

That is six. I have not thought of a seventh one yet.

Bear, Grizzly specifically.

In my family we have an old appalachian folk tale about bears. Long story short, if you dream of a bear chasing someone that person is soon to die in real life. But usually when I dream of a bear it is chasing me, rarely is it chasing anyone else. While these dreams are scary, I admire bears at the same time.

About a dozen years ago, I was asked by an Amerindian (Cherokee) what my totem is, and she stumped me because, even though three of my four grandparents were Me'tis (mixed European and Amerindian ancestry), I was not raise in "the tradition of the elders", so I didn't know what she was looking for. She then asked me if there was any particular animal that I strongly related to, and I said none in particular. She then asked me whether I had visions or dreams about any one particular animal, and then it clicked: I had one reoccurring dream, not only during my childhood, but for many years afterward, that I must have had thousands of times.

Yep, it's my avatar, and my wife says that it's very much quite applicable for me. I wonder what she means by that?

Anyhow, what's your totem?
It is somewhat funny that I don't have a dog now; also, that I now feed a few stray cats living nearby. It took a few months for them to let me touch them.

I find that dogs many times become very friendly with me more than with other people. However, once in a while I also find that a few dogs don't want to have anything to do with me; it is as if they say, you are not my family.

One a few occasions, it is as if a few dogs seem to be searching for another dog when I am near, they look around in that search pattern and find only me.
Even when driving a car this has occurred so that I can see the dog looking around for no discernible reason when walking with their owner as if they think another dog is nearby.

Well, I am no dog psychologist, so I cannot say I understand the whys of it.
