Arguments – Obstacles on the way leading to eternal life

The purpose of the following lines is to contemplate those obstacles, which one may encounter on the way leading to eternal life and why some people don't turn to God so easily. The purpose is to deliberate especially over those outlooks and thoughts, which lie in the minds of many people and make them negative toward spiritual matters and God's call; in other words reasons, why they turn their backs on God's salvation and grace.

So, when we start searching for reasons and obstacles, why these people don't turn to God and on what grounds, especially the following points are relevant. They appear again and again in the lives of many people and are a reason for why spiritual matters and God's call are neglected by them.

I recognise many of those, and, frankly, I don't see an answer to them.

a)
Firstly I think that lack of thinking can be one great obstacle to why people don't want to turn their eyes toward God and receive the eternal treasure. The fact is that many never stop to think about spiritual matters, the reality of eternal life and its validity. They don't want to find out the truth, or to come near God (Jam 4:8: Come near to God and he will come near to you.) or to seek his kingdom (Matt 6:33: But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness…), but they push this matter aside. They don't want to test the words of Jesus, and what he said about this matter:

Firstly, I don't think people get that far. They need to accept the existance of God, and that is subjective.

b)Secondly, according to my understanding the view of our own "scientificness" and wisdom has held many people outside the kingdom of God. The fact is that the world of today sticks tight to its objectivity and has adopted a view pertaining to natural science. In other words everyone of us wants to believe that he is rational and sensible, that his view is impartial, unimpassioned and based on facts. Surely nobody wants to regard himself as being a religious bigot or for example a fundamentalist (many lump together all religiousness and Islam in this group), a name which some newspapers and editors use with pleasure. Many, when they are in this state of mind, in other words wise in their own perceptions (Paul wrote, Rom 12:16 [Old King James]: " Be not wise in your own conceits" and "but in humility consider others better than yourselves", Phil 2:3), are actually just like the Pharisee, who compared himself to the tax collector and regarded himself better:
The way I see it, the 'I am scientific' is shorthand for 'I am not going to believe in a myth; prove God exists to me.

Thje rest of the points raised naturally follow on from this; the idea that all Christians are going to behave 'angelically' is of course, absurd.

"Damnation" (even though I personally don't believe in it) is a bitter pill for non believers to swallow.

In my own experience, Religion comes through a personal and subjective wish to embrace a revelation. You can lead a horse to a pond, but you cannot make him drink.........

There is no end to the excuses people can come up with to deny Christ. We should carry the message of God's grace to these people when and where we can, but whether or not they accept God's grace is entirely between them and God.

What is your concept of eternal life? The idea of living forever and ever is mind boggling and not really pleasant, in my opinion. Some Christians think you will be singing God's praises for all eternity, how very mega boring!!!!!
