If you have a great deal of talent allowing you to become a world-class painter or musician, what is the benefit from undergoing the training to realize that inborn talent?
Self satisfaction and perhaps to earn a living. Okay, now that I've answered your question how about answering mine, which you conveniently ignored.

On a petty scale the purpose of life is to reproduce and pass on your genes.

On a grander scale, ask the universe what is the purpose of life and the universe will reply "huh"

You did not count my answer as an answer which is, in a sense, an answer in and of itself.

Not what i said, in fact, exactly the opposite way round, there is no purpose to life in the universe.

However, i can imagine no purpose for the universe.

I just came across a blurb for a new book by Leo Severino titled, GOING DEEPER, which is said to address, in part, the purpose of life. Not able to read it, and I most likely never will, it got me thinking about RF folk here and what they thought, hence, my question, which can be answered as.

There is no purpose to life
or
There is, and it's ________________________________________________ ..

The purpose of life is survival.

The purpose of living is to do just that, to live? Kind of like, brown is the shade it is because it's brown.

No, no, no. My question was an imperative. Not what we do, but why "should" we do it.

"To what end? Why should I learn everything I can?"
you should ...because.....
you will stand before God and heaven...and the question will be...

What do you believe?

likely to be followed by....Who told you that?!!!!
and then.....Why did you believe it?

If they don't like whatever you say......They might draw sword and be done with you
I believe the peace of heaven is guarded

They will then go in search of the guy that deceived you
and put an end to him as well

What shade of life are you living?
The purpose of life can be said to be different for everyone or it can be said to be the same.
Life is meant to be lived.
Death is the only thing that thwarts that purpose.

Individually we all make our own choices thereby creating our own unique purpose.
Our purpose then is determined by the choices we make.

We
If I may....

this life is much like a Sower of Seed
the seed falls wherever and grows by it's ability to endure
it is the same in that regard for all of us

it is not the same as many choices are beyond our reach

still we all turn out to be....unique

It is the only thing that makes sense to most.
I was born in America and so i live like an American.
No thought for any purpose beyond finding ones place within the culture.

I'm always irritated at this silly idea of "the purpose of life." If life has a purpose (which is the explanation for why there is life), then it must have a purposer - something/someone that/who began life for some reason of its/his/her own.

So, pretty easy then -- why does something/someone who is not alive (because if there is no life, that would be impossible) decide it/he/she wants to create life -- something that it seems unlikely, in the circumstances, it would know anything about?

Oh, I know the answers: "it/he/she wants to be worshipped." Why? Would that make it'him/her-self feel better about whatever it seems to be doing? Maybe it/he/she wanted puppets, or slaves, or dinner?

Some brave religious soul, do me one better -- tell me why an omniscient, perfect, spiritual being, in the absence of anything like life, would want to start such a thing at all -- just one really good reason will do. .

picture yourself as the First

Someone had to be First

then realize the extreme solitude confinement
the universe is large....but you're the only One............

and being in two places at once won't cut it
you would be talking to yourself

so.....here we are

Hello! Evangelical. There are things that we cannot comprehend why it happened. I agree with you that there is the one who made us for a purpose. If we try to go deeper into the knowledge of God why we are created, what we may discover will came from His Words.

Isa 55:8-9
8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,"
declares the Lord.
9 "As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts. NIV

Deut 29:29
29 The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law. NIV

Thanks

Say I survive until I'm 91, what's been accomplished?
.

If you've had any children, the survival of your DNA. From procreation to death, whatever you've been able to do to support the continuation of your family, future generations, your species and life in general.

The purpose of life is the survival of life which does not necessarily include the survival of the individual.
