Who has tried Reiki?

I have always wanted to try Reiki but for some reason I always put it off. I've looked into it quite a bit but I have some sort of fear of actually going and trying it. Its really weird for me to feel this way as I always try new things without much ado. I even have several good friends who perform Reiki.

So if you have tried Reiki or Reiki practitioner, please describe your experience with it.

I'm really baffled at why I'm so nervous to try it.

Someone did Reiki for me once in high school and was pleasantly surprised that it worked. Her hands were an inch or so off of my back and I felt the sensation of heat. It relieved the pain of my back injury for a couple of hours.

It's really no different than having a message. Except it uses energy instead of pressure. When I was attuned to practice Reiki, I had a very profound reaction. I could not stand for over 30 minutes. Cigarettes tasted absolutely metalic for about 3 days afterward. And I had a wart on my finger that I had not been able to get rid of for years, simply dissappeared the day after my attunement.

This is not what you will get from regular Reiki session. Attunement was described to me as being jump started like a car battery. A regular session is a much gentler experience. I have practiced healing reiki on many people, who have all been shocked and surprized that I could make the pain go away when there other physical therapies did not work, or only worked temporarily. I have also given chakra clearings which for some reason has always caused the person to break down in tears. It is apparently a healing thing, but I don't like making people cry, even if it's for their own good. So I usually stick to the healing reiki. I feel good knowing I have helped someone feel better.

Truly, if you are uncomfortable with trying Reiki, there's probably a reason for it. Don't feel you need to try it just because it's something new! For me, I was hesitant to try it, because, when people described it, it didn't seem like anything could live up to their description.

I am a practitioner, though, and love using it. I find that people are as relaxed, refreshed and comfortable (sometimes even more so) afterward as they would be if I'd given them a massage. (The reason I say sometimes even more so is because there are many people with body issues, or who are terrified to take off their clothing, even if they'll still be covered with draping. Reiki removes that stress, as it can be done without even touching.)

When I or a client start crying during a session, it's mostly because of how they react to the feeling of the energy. To me, it reminds me of nothing so much as complete, unconditional love- the kind of feeling I imagine that one would get from being comforted by their goddess or god. It's as if something is seeing straight into your soul, and reminding you how beautiful you are. Not enough people, in my not-so-humble opinion (hehee) grow up knowing that feeling, so it can be a little bit startling.

I knew someone that was going through training and she needed people to practice on, so I volunteered. It was a little strange because she knew, without me saying anything, where I had a long term back injury.

She said something like "Hhhhuuummmm, there's something going on here....an injury....been here a long time...."

I had been in a car accident and she seemed to sense exactly where the injury was. When she had her hand over the injury, that area of my back became very warm.

If you are worried about it, talk to one of your friends. Tell them that you are interested but a little hesitant. Try to figure out why you are a little hesitant. That might help you to realize what you are afraid of and help you to get over the fear.

I've been attuned as a Reiki I practitioner. When I'm giving Reiki, it tends to put me in a state of mind were I completly blank out everything, but I feel refreshed afterwards. Recieving, for me, is as relaxing as suana, without the puddles of sweat.

agreed, if you are hesitant it will cause you to put up a mental block, you baiscally stop yourself doing it. i have a mental block on invocations, i can raise said energies, imagine and conjure up said deity, but yet i have a great unease at the thought of being out of control of my body - this unease also stops me from performing astral projection - the point being, i need to search for the reason of this unease, and deal with that, before breaking through into these things.... i haven't tried Reiki, but i will deffinatley look into it :)

Ok, I can give you the guided meditation I use on my patients. You can certainly use this during meditation. It won't be the same having someone help you move the energy around, but you have the power to heal yourself, and this would be a great way to practice.

OK. First of course is all the typical, get in a comfortable position, quiet, blah, blah, blah. OK, next you picture the chakras colors and where they are positioned on your body.

chakras.jpg
(purple is on the forehead, and crystal or pure white light right above the head).

Now, concentrate on the root chakra, imagine a ball of light in your body where the root chakra is located. While your are visualizing this red ball you will take 3 SLOW, DEEP breathes. Each inhale, I want you to imagine the red ball of light gets bigger, like blowing up a balloon from the inside. By the third breathe, the ball of light will be large enough to surround your whole body, and the last exhale should be strong and forced out. With the forced exhale, image the ball of light exploding and showering you with red sparkles. *I love sparklies*

You move on to the next chakra, orange, then yellow, and so on. Each color gets three breathes, each color gets filled with your breath, and each chakra gets popped open with a fireworks like display.

When you have finished with the last chakra (the pure white one) this leaves you bathed and filled with the healing pure, crystal white light.

How's that sound? Does it make sense? I have never tried to describe this, I just narate these visuals while I do reiki. The only thing that I do, that I can't do with you, is place my hand over the chakra area that is being concentrated on. But you can certainly do this to yourself. It's a way to focus your energy on one spot.
