Can Christianity move beyond its inherent homophobia?

Its about idolatry.
While claiming to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for the likeness of an image of mortal man or of birds or of four-legged animals or snakes.

Therefore, God handed them over to impurity through the lusts of their hearts for the mutual degradation of their bodies.

Paul is referring to heterosexual perversion. He has no concept of sexual orientation identified only in the 19th cent.

The first five books had many authors.

You need to read all of Romans 1:1-32 and pay close attention to Verse's 26-32.

Before you go nick picking Verse's that only Suits Your Agenda.

You can not take one Verse to over ride all those other Verse's. All those Verse's 1 - 32 stand together.

The Thread does say --> Can Christianity move beyond it's inherit homophobia.

The answer to that is, No not as long as God's words stands against such things.

The first five books of the bible were written by Moses only.

Muffled

Jesus in me
That message of love wasn't clear though until the NT. The OT seems to be filled with a different message even though I realize that it was a foreshadowing of the NT. What are your thoughts to that? I'm in the process of rereading the Bible for my own knowledge so I will see what I learn this time.

I believe that before I received Jesus the God as reported in the OT seemed to be one to be feared. After reciving Jesus I can see the love of God at work in the OT.

You are assuming that God spoke words and dictated and those who wrote simply took dictation and that the context of time and culture had no influence.

I believe I don't have to assume. The Holy Spirit confirms what was written.

No, scriptures aren't so clear: What the Bible says and means about homosexual behavior: all views

As for the future of the present anti-gay teachings, some sort of re-examination will likely have to occur as homophobia is increasingly seen as being on the level of racism.

By all means, explain exactly how you can get around.
"If a man also lays with mankind, As he lays with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them" Leviticus 20:18.

"And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an en-sample unto those that after should live ungodly" 2 Peter 2:6.

Notice that even Christ Jesus Himself said--"And He answered and said unto them, Have you not read, that He which made them in the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they Twain shall be one flesh" Matthew 19:4,5.

Can't make it any more clearer than that.

"I am the Lord , I Change not"
Malachi 3:6.
Jesus Christ the same Yesterday, and to day, and for ever" Hebrews 13:8.

Does this mean that Christians are to put people to death, Of course not.
God will take of those who commits abomination. At His Judgement Seat.

"It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God" Hebrews 10:31.

If a person wants to live, such, such a life style that's them, but there will be no escape, all the warning have been given.

The only problem with homosexualit is that Christians are a thorn in their side.
It must be homosexualls conscience bothers them. It seems that Christians are more a thorn in homosexualls sides,
than homosexualls are a thorn in the Christians side.
It doesn't bother me at all. It's not my life, don't tread on me, I will not tread on you.

It's not can a Christian move beyond their homophobia, But can homosexualls move beyond their Christian ophobia?

You do have a point of sorts here. In the Bible god does regard homosexuality as a sin. Period. Of course these aren't the only things. Among others there's:

Lusting Matthew 5:28
Dressing alluringly 1 Timothy 2:9
Lying 1 Timothy 1:10
Divorcing and remarrying Mark 10:11-12
Women speaking in church 1 Corinthians 14:34
Where the homophobia enters the picture is in the discrimination against homosexuals, which Christians are well known for. And as long as you see the merit in Old Testament writings, in particular Leviticus 20:13, how about following god's directive and put these homosexuals to death? What are you waiting for?

First of all, it's not up to any Christians to go killing homosexualls. That is God's doings at His Judgement Seat.on the day of Judgement.

The next thing that you didn't point out, in your giving those books above, Show just one of them as being an Abomination unto God.

As with homosexualit is an Abomination unto God. Or did you not notice that in Leviticus 20:13 "If a man lie with mankind, As he lays with a woman both of them have Committed an Abomination.

Therefore all those books above that you given is not an Abomination unto God. As with homosexualit is an Abomination unto God.

God does not say Adultery is an Abomination. Like God said with homosexualit is an Abomination.

God does not say lieing is an Abomination, as God does say about homosexualit is an Abomination.

God does not say Marrying and Remarrying is an Abomination. As God does say homosexualit is an Abomination.

God does not say, that woman who speak in church is an Abomination, As God does say about homosexualit is an Abomination.

Just in case you haven't figured it out.
Abomination means = Extreme Hatred.

Therefore homosexualit is an Extreme Hatred of God's. And is punishable by death At the Judgement Seat of God, in the day of Judgement.

But if you think it bother's me about homosexualit, it's their life live it, but the day of Reckoning will have it's day. At the Judgement Seat of God's.

Blah, blah, blah. Actually look at the link I posted, learn how to spell and realize that there's many LGBT Christians.

Which is written where?

In any case, the experts disagree.

Leviticus 20:13

Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary

7-19. Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy—The minute specification of the incestuous and unnatural crimes here enumerated shows their sad prevalence amongst the idolatrous nations around, and the extreme proneness of the Israelites to follow the customs of their neighbors. It is to be understood, that, whenever mention is made that the offender was "to be put to death" without describing the mode, stoning is meant.

Expositor's Bible Commentary
The second section (Leviticus 20:9-21) enumerates, first (Leviticus 20:9-16), other cases for which capital punishment was ordered: and then (Leviticus 20:17-21) certain offences for which a lesser penalty is prescribed. These two sections are separated (Leviticus 20:7-8) by a command, in view of these penalties, to sanctification of life, and obedience to the Lord, as the God who has redeemed and consecrated Israel to be a nation to Himself.

Gill's Exposition

If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
If a man lie also with mankind, as he lieth with a woman,.... Is guilty of the sin of sodomy, this is a breach of the law in Leviticus 18:22,

both of them have committed an abomination; he that lies, and he that is lain with, both consenting to perpetrate the abominable wickedness; which may well be called an abomination, being contrary to nature, and more than brutish, for nothing of that kind is to be found among brutes:
they shall surely be put to death; if he that is lain with is not forced, as Aben Ezra observes:
their blood shall be upon them; be slain by stoning, as the above Targum.

Verses 10-21

Sins against the seventh commandment are here ordered to be severely punished. These are sins which, of all others, fools are most apt to make a mock at; but God would teach those the heinousness of the guilt by the extremity of the punishment that would not otherwise be taught it.

The next thing that you didn't point out, in your giving those books above, Show just one of them as being an Abomination unto God.
How about the one about lying. Because not everything concerning an issue is found in all verses referring to that issue, sometimes it's necessary to look at others. Such is the case with lying being an abomination. Whereas 1 Timothy 1:10 doesn't call lying an abomination, Proverbs 12:22 does.

Proverbs 12:22
Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are his delight.

As with homosexualit is an Abomination unto God. Or did you not notice that in Leviticus 20:13 "If a man lie with mankind, As he lays with a woman both of them have Committed an Abomination.
[/quote]
Well, not everyone feels it's an abomination.

CSB
If a man sleeps with a man as with a woman, they have both committed a detestable act. They must be put to death; their death is their own fault.

CEV
It’s disgusting for men to have sex with one another, and those who do will be put to death, just as they deserve.

ERV
“If a man has sexual relations with another man as with a woman, they have committed a terrible sin. They must be put to death. They are responsible for their own death.

ICB
“‘A man might have physical relations with another man as a man does with a woman. If he does, these two men have done a hated sin. They must be put to death. They have brought it on themselves.

ISV
“If a man has sexual relations with another male as he would with a woman, both have committed a repulsive act. They are certainly to be put to death.

TLB
The penalty for homosexual acts [no description!] is death to both parties. They have brought it upon themselves.

MSG
“If a man has sex with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is abhorrent. They must be put to death; they are responsible for their own deaths.

NCV
“‘If a man has sexual relations with another man as a man does with a woman, these two men have done a hateful sin. They must be put to death. They have brought it on themselves.

NLV
If a man lies with a male as if he were a woman, both of them have done a very sinful act. They must be put to death. They will suffer for their own sin.

WYC
If a man sleepeth with a man, by lechery of a woman, ever either hath wrought unleaveful thing, die they by death; their blood be on them. (If a man sleepeth with a man, like in fleshly coupling with a woman, they both have done an unlawful thing, and they both shall be put to death; their blood be on them.)

Therefore homosexualit is an Extreme Hatred of God's. And is punishable by death At the Judgement Seat of God, in the day of Judgement.
I don't know how that's suppose to work, but homosexuals are also to be punished by man, as noted by the experts above. Sorry, but god still expects you to kill all those practicing homosexuals.

But if you think it bother's me about homosexualit, it's their life live it, but the day of Reckoning will have it's day. At the Judgement Seat of God's.
Yeah, I'm pretty familiar with the compassion Christians have toward those who commit sins they themselves have been able to avoid.

Everything that you have given is under the old testament which is of Israel.

For Christians we are under the New Testament.

Therefore what you have given is under Old Testaments. Israel being under the old testament, Was to put to death those that committed such things.

As for Christians being under the New Testament. We are not to kill anyone, unless its in self defense.

What you need to do, is get an understanding of the Old Testaments and the New Testaments.
What was Required under the Old Testaments, is not no longer Required under the New Testaments.

Therefore, there is no where in the New Testament, That Christians are Required to take lives, only in self defense.

So much projection for one post. I see nothing Christ-like about your nasty attitude.

That's because you think or have been taught that a Christian should lay down and be a walk on and that is not being Christ like.

Maybe you should read how Christ took a whip and over turned tables and chase people out of the Temple. Matthew 21:12

Maybe read where Christ called the scribes and Pharisees hypocrites and told them they are more a child of hell.
Matthew 23:13-15.

But According to you, this is not being Christ like.
