Particularly in the name of Judaism, Islam and Christianity.
I will offer a fundamental purpose of life regardless of belief system or world view.
The purpose of life is life.
I see two distinct categories of views so far in this thread:
(1) The first is the view that the purpose of life is only through the belief in God, and most often through only one belief in God, such as one church, sect, or criteria of belief, where there is no purpose of life beyond this belief system. I have seen some say that non-believers are in ecclesiastical crisis, but the reality this problem may be universal to all belief systems. Some of these beliefs propose a Theocracy or eccelsiocracy to implement this purpose of life for everyone. Religious guidance for law, or religious law becomes becomes the law and the purse of life for everyone. For such as system to work it must acknowledge the diversity of world views and their purpose in life, but unfortunately most religious world views do not acknowledge others that do not believe as they do.
The problem with is view is that it creates conflicts, intolerance, and social isolation from those who believe differently.
(2) Others propose that everyone should and do find their own purpose in life. In some ways this is a very real view, because despite assertions of option #1 it is a matter of life that most different belief systems do offer purpose of life in their own values, ethics and world view.
The problem with this 'everyone out for their own purpose of life,' is that results in a form anarchist conclusion with no standards beyond ones own world view.
I believe it is incumbent on humanity to develop or embrace a more universal standard of 'purpose of life' that allows for a diversity religious and secular alternatives to coexist. The problem here is what could be the universal standard that would be acceptable in the diversity of worldviews?
