True purpose in life

According to nature. If you don't survive long enough to breed, then your genes end with you.
That's assuming "nature" even wants our genes to go on (it doesn't - we just like to say it does). Nature alone has already killed off over 99.9999% of everything that's ever lived. And philosophically, it's a question of if "nature" will ever hit a 100% total kill rate.
But, it doesn't care if you survive. It could kill you tomorrow, or not, but one day even our species will go extinct because nature and death are the same.

Quite right, from that larger point of view.

But we, like all those extinct species, get to survive at all because we've evolved to want, need and love to survive (so that we can breed). Our evolved appetite for survival is also natural ─ from ours, the insider's point of view.

Still doesn't make it a point or purpose in life. Especially since we've hit a point where it would be better if more people don't reproduce. If we are to survive, among other things, the world needs less of us. Sounds to me it is still a sort "god gives us our purpose" type of position, but just replacing god with genetics.

The purpose of life is to survive and breed.

If there were any doubt, the currency of the term 'biological clock' in Western society these days shows that nothing has displaced the breeding imperative.

If we cut our breeding down to prolong our lives and those of our children, that makes consistent sense, but a goodly part of the population doesn't intellectualize the process. That's why economic constraint on having many children is far more effective than erudition.

The purpose of life is to survive and breed.
According to no cosmic law or divine edict. Nothing but our own human arrogance (and probably our fear of death).
As for terms, we believe in "soul mates," but that doesn't make it real. It doesn't mean there is one person that is special and just right for exclusively us. We also tend to get violent impulses, as a part of our nature, but that doesn't mean it's good to act on them or that our purpose should be one of violence and anger.

It's called 'oxytocin', it's found in birds and animals that bond, and it worked nicely for me.

I oversimplify, of course.

I'm not referring to the chemicals involved, but rather our myth that there is one special someone out there just for me.

I highly doubt that was the purpose of Jesus, but whatever his intended goals where, they are lost in distortion.

I can't find any distortion in Daniel 2:44 because that is the kingdom government that Jesus taught we should pray to come when he said to ask for: " Thy (God's) kingdom come.....".
Jesus stated his purpose at Luke 4:43 that the ' kingdom ' took precedent over everything including his healing works.
Jesus' healing works were temporary because those people did Not yet gain everlasting life at that time frame.
Jesus' purpose is to undo the damage Adam passed down to us and open up the way to live forever as was offered to Adam before his downfall, and that solution for forever healing will come through God's kingdom government.
The distortion I find is that clergy often only teach about heaven and ignore Jesus' purpose found in Scripture that humble meek people will inherit the Earth ( the earthly realm of God's kingdom government ).

I do think everyone is meant to create life in the world. and we are all free to discover for ourselves how to do it.
I would hope one day that all of humanity will have common ground, and that evil would be greatly diminished. but I get the feeling life will always have to contend with evil. So that makes it a challenge to find purpose vs. battling to survive humanity.

I think your feeling about contending with evil would be right except that Jesus, as Prince of Peace, is the one who will establish Peace on Earth among persons of goodwill by getting rid of evil ones.
We can Not read hearts but Jesus can and he will according to Isaiah 11:3-4.
As Revelation 19:14-16 explains it's the executional words from Jesus' mouth which will rid earth of the wicked.
And as Psalms 92:7 states the wicked will be destroyed forever.
The wicked will Not remain according to Proverbs 2:21-22.
The time is coming according to Psalms 37:9-11when the wicked ones will be No more.

Indeed it's subjective (though not exactly arbitrary), but when it happened to me, I didn't argue.

The argument is that this idea of the purpose of life being to reproduce is equally based on solid firm evidence as is the idea of a soul mate. People want to believe we are that damn special, that it still does really revolve around us, but really we're nothing.

Can God help me discover my true purpose in life or is it something I must figure out on my own?

The purpose of the universe and life is so that God can have many varied personality experiences.

The purpose of your life is to live and have experiences. Even if you never leave the house, you are still a unique personality having that experience.

Life has a purpose, this is why we are here. There's a meaning in life. Life is precious and it is worth living. The air we breathe that is free, we are now sharing and discuss things is awesome enough to tell the world that we have a purpose.

There is hope and love. But we should be guided like a compass who guides the traveler. We do enjoy life because it is given to us to see the beauty that God has created. Thanks

My purpose in life is to praise and give glory to the one who created me. Because I believed that there is a powerful one who created me.

The meaning that I found is that Life is precious and enjoyable to live with. We can have a life that has peace and joy. We have been given a gift, talent and skills to use it. Look how technology progressed, we do things miraculously and sometimes we could not imagine how we did it. There is a miracle in us. Life is a Miracle. Thanks.

yes, absolutely. we are here because of god, and we all should do what god dictates us, and our purpose is to follow the path of jesus, so that we earn eternal bliss near god.
