If you love pumpkin pie, but DO NOT like chiffon pumpkin pie, you like regular pumpkin pie, But you were forced to have chiffon pumpkin pie or no pie, while at a relatives for Thanksgiving. Which is most ethical to do; to eat the pie, smile and say thank you. Not eat the pie and complain since they would not let you bring regular pumpkin pie. Or Is there a more ethical approach altogether?

The only ethical pumpkin pie is the traditional kind,
with a lard & butter pie shell. I believe this is in the Bible.

I don't think so. Lard is rendered pork fat. From... well y'know... pigs.

:D

They should do away with the lard, butter and flour and just use bacon for the pumpkin pie crust...

They can't tell you not to bring real pumpkin pie if you don't ask. Why ask a question if you already know what the answer should be?
Make them do the smiling and thank you-ing. :smirk:
If they seem insufficiently grateful talk about real pumpkin pie over dinner a few times in the context of how the world seems to be going to hell in a handbasket.

My family maintains that you can NEVER have too many desserts at Thanksgiving...well, at any meal where the family gathers...:)

The morally responsible think to do is to bring several pumpkin pies, each of a different recipe...as well as apple, cherry, pecan and two or three different kinds of cake, plus fruit and ice cream...:D

I've never eaten pumpkin pie, but it sounds rank.

Pumpkins are for carving faces into and putting candles inside, not eating.

Sounds like the kind of thing people ate before they invented proper desserts. Probably after eating a main course of gruel.

I feel sorry for you.

A pie with a properly made crust is one of the few good arguments for the existence of God.

And bakery "pies" with their various abominations support the idea of hell. If you want a taste of the Seventh Circle of Hell I suggest a frozen Marie Callender pie. It can't get worse than that.

Been there & done that.
Homemade is best.
Alas, Mrs Revolt is making only apple & pecan pies for Turkey Day.

My mother used to make the best pies. Though she did switch to butter for the crust after a brother of mine became a Seventh Day Adventist. Hers were still amazingly delicious. A slice of her pie would get me an entire meal in trade at my favorite Mexican restaurant. And my sister seems to have inherited the pie making gene too. I guess if I want pies regularly I have to see if I have that talent myself. I think that the first step is eating a pie with a proper crust and knowing that such a dish is possible. I was always amazed at the number of people that have never had a decent pie in this world of ours.

Having pumpkin pie in my family is a religious requirement for dining in the fall and not just for Thanksgiving. Others who disagree will be declared "heretics" and end up much like the turkey tomorrow.

Cooked that is, not eaten.

Whew, I just dodged a bullet.
