Religious Schools.

What are your religious beliefs when it comes to school? I say school as in what you guys call elementary and high. (We call it Primary and High). Anyways, is it vital?

My mom sent me to a catholic school for primary and highschool. At primary, all of us from grade one onwards HAD to go to church on a weekly basis (during school hours). The only exceptions to this, was that Muslims and Hindu did not have to attend. Otherwise, you did. There were NO exceptions.

So during my 7 years in primary school we HAD to make Communion and COnfirmation. ALL of us HAD to. (Except Muslims/Hindu). Sing the hymns and what ever else people are meant to do at church.

Same went for the three yaers of High school. However, there were NO exceptions this time. I had enough and walked out.

Anyways, enough on my history. Do you think that religion is a necessary part of schooling? Personally, I find that schools should not force all the people to go to church if they don't want to. They learnt that I didn't:biglaugh: I also think it is unfair that ALL individuals of all religions to HAVE to go to the one church. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION.
Any comments appreciated.

I was public school all the way... no religion in the classroom... that was for my partents to decide.
I have to say I'm glad that I had it that way.

First, I will give you coins :)

I hated the way I had to go to church every friday through school. Got so bored and restless, "why am I being forced to do this?" Eventually I got so bored I decided to roll down the aisle lol.

I don't think it's wrong for a religious school to require its students to go to religious services. But, I think it's wrong for a parent to send a child to a religious school if the child does not believe in that particular religion and does not want to be subject to its various rules. It's one thing to send your first grader to Catholic school and see how it turns out, but if the kid is, say, 13, and has decided to become Muslim or Taoist or anything else, it's disrespectful to the child to ignore his/her personal spirituality when making a decision on schooling.

Phew. I hope that makes sense!

I went to catholic school from 3rd, to 5th grade. I didn't mind too much about the church, it was boring at times. But hell, anything where you have to sit still and do nothing for an hour is REALLY BORING for a kid that age. Funny enough, I hated religion back then. I got D's and F's in religion class. But once I got out of catholic school was when I started getting interested in it. Perhaps, when anything is forced upon people, they tend to hate it. But when it is not, then it is easier to study, easier to accept, and easier to argue. I hope that made sense.

I went to a Catholic elementary school, K-6th grade. I loved it. Everyone had to go to Mass on Fridays. If you wern't Catholic, you didn't have to participate in Mass or the sacrements, but you had to go to mass, just for supervision.
I loved to go to Mass and learn about Religion in class. It showed how important God was in our everyday lives. Went I went to public school, I missed that.

I decided I had had enough and went to a public school. The religion at school is a good idea with good intent, but possibly not tailored for all's beliefs and religions.
