Happy International Blasphemy Rights Day!

The Emperor of Mankind

Today, the 30th of September, is International Blasphemy Rights Day. A day where we can pause and reflect on the contribution of heretics, blasphemers, dissenters and non-conformists to our social & technological evolution.

Today I honour the likes of
  • Galileo;
  • Raif Badawi;
  • Salman Rushdie;
  • Socrates;
  • Asia Bibi;
  • the staff at Charlie Hebdo & Jyllands-Posten;
  • 'John Salvesen';
  • Basuki Tjahaja Purnama;
  • Maryam Namazie;
  • Zarathustra;
  • Gautama Buddha;
  • Arius;
  • Muhammad;
  • Theo Van Gogh;
  • Ayaan Hirsi Ali;
  • Jesus;
  • Baha'u'llah;
  • The Bab;
  • Brihaspati;
  • Martin Luther
All these people and many more have suffered or even been killed for (even just the accusation of) challenging & disagreeing with the religious orthodoxies and norms of their day.

Whether I agree with their beliefs or not; their actions and convictions & those of their followers have helped us improve our understanding of our place in the world and wider Universe.

While I like the sentiment it is a little more than weird seeing Muhammad's name on the list. If it wasn't for Islam we would not be having an International Blasphemy Day.

You can add Jesus to the list.

John 10:33
"We are not stoning you for any good work," they replied, "but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God."

Good point! I was trying to think of names of ancient Christians but Jesus himself fits the bill!

I know it's a little strange and I do agree with you but I put Muhammad's name up there because he was a religious dissenter and because I don't want this to turn into a '**** Islam' thread.

The fact that most of these people are blasphemers against Islamic orthodoxy stems purely from the fact that that is the contemporary hot topic, thus their names came to mind quicker than most others.

1 point for creativity, I suppose.

Very nice verse that Christians say, proves Jesus pbuh claimed to be GOD Almighty, yet forget the context which is plainly explained in the following verses.

And he explains, he's just a son of God, just as they were called sons of God in Psalms 82:6

No, the little s sons of God are Jesus' followers. The big S Son of God is Jesus. The Son of God. Therefore do not Blaspheme!! Muslim.

I'm getting really tired of every mention of Muhammad and Islam getting turned into an anti-Islamic rant. Maybe I'll just start posting Allah hu Akbar, baby every time this happens.

In the meantime, that's a great list. Thanks.

Little and big s? Can you show me the original Greek to support this position. Why didn't Jesus pbuh just say, well as you know it is written you are sons of God, (pious God fearing people) but I am The Son of GOD?

I guess he wants us to figure it out.

Little s for Adam New International Version
the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

big S for Jesus 1 john 4:15 New International Version
If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God.

It's obvious to me.

There was no Lower/Upper case in the Greek. It's all written in the style of the time and is best described using modern language as all being in Upper Case.

Well this is deviating from the thread...so i won't respond to that, but I don't see why Muslims and Jews don't get along...
