Impermanence can be a real *****!

I'm sure we've all had this experience - you are enjoying a new thread - having a great interaction with other people - yet somewhere way in the back of your head you just know it won't last - within a day or two the thread will probly no longer be "active" and will just be no more than a pleasant "memory".

Here is a classic example -

What is consciousness?

So ... what bugs you about impermanence?

I welcome any and all responses!

Cheers.

@DavidFirth is right. You don't worry about impermanence much if you don't care that things be permanent.

I wouldn't say I actually "worry" about impermanence - just some minor frustration and even then there are many times I just "go with the flow" and allow things to be transient and changing constantly ...

It's a learning curve like anything worthwhile.

Cheers

"This too shall pass" makes me happy about some things and sad about other things because everything in creation is transitory.

You are change. Embrace your nature. Easy, breezy, lemon squeezy.

Impermanence ain't got nuttin' on you.

Well, your example is very mild.

When you become elderly, this really may become a serious problem without any visible solution.
All of a sudden, your resources may become marginalized, your spouse seriously ill so as to be unable to carry the load but instead becomes part of the burden that needs a solution. You go from having a life to living in an open prison where there is no escape from the situation going to hell in a hand-basket.

As long as your problems of impermanence are questions on a website, count yourself blessed. Eventually, many of us come to a time none would want to experience.

Me too!

Coming to terms with that big fact of life is the main challenge I face :)

I am making slow "progress" ...

Cheers!

I wasn't making fun of you, just elaborating, maybe.

One thing I've learned is that nothing in this life is permanent except the One I depend on. He is permanently in my corner and that fills me with great joy!

No matter what I do or say He loves me and takes care of me. It's a wonderful thing!

Impermanence is reality. And there are times when that reality sucks.

Thank you for this. Understanding stuff like this is a door to compassion and gratitude. Accepting the realities of life is the door to perspective, and that is the entrance to a meaningful life.

Suffering and impermanence are the first steps to freedom.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
It's impermanent when you want it to be permanent. That's what bugs me about it.
That gave me a chuckle. But you're pretty much right on the the money on how a lot of people feel about it.

The way I have it figured is even though impermanence is a contention, things have a way of cycling back around from time to time.

One ages, falls sick and dies no matter how secure one's finances are. You are forgetting Jesus's words here.

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? 28 And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ 32 For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But strive first for the kingdom of God and hisrighteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

34 “So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

But yes, it becomes tough with age. So psychological preparation for the inevitable estrangement from all things one takes for granted is needed from an early stage.

You know our scripture. Have you studied the Bible? You are Hindu, right!
Just a small comment on the scripture you quoted. This promise was given to a specific group - not to the majority of mankind, nor maybe to all Christians.

I have studied the Bible with a college evangelical group for 5 years on and of. So I am reasonably knowledgeable.
Is there anything on the passage to suggest that this does not apply to all who follow Jesus? I expect that the gospels were written for the generic Christian audience of the fledgling church and thus those sayings of Jesus would have been written that had found popularity and appeal to the converts in general. It's presence in both Matthew and Luke as well as variant in the gnostic Thomas shows that it was widely circulated among the diversifying groups of early Christianity.

I am a little tired, so if I make a mistake let me know. I haven't checked where you got your scriptures from, I don't think you mentioned it. But, it seems to be from Matthew ch. 6. If you look at parallel passage of Luke there is an additional specificity included. Here is the passage:
Luke 12:28-33 28 If, now, God thus clothes the vegetation in the field that today exists and tomorrow is cast into an oven, how much rather will he clothe YOU, YOU with little faith! 29 So quit seeking what YOU might eat and what YOU might drink, and quit being in anxious suspense; 30 for all these are the things the nations of the world are eagerly pursuing, but YOUR Father knows YOU need these things. 31 Nevertheless, seek continually his kingdom, and these things will be added to YOU.
32 “Have no fear, little flock, because YOUR Father has approved of giving YOU the kingdom. 33 Sell the things belonging to YOU and give gifts of mercy. . . .
Denominational gulf
Unfortunately, Christians are not sharing the same belief system. The differences are huge. Personally, I have rejected all churches and now use a Sola Scripture approach of a Harmonious interpretation that includes the entire OT & NT, and I use many translations, interlinear on the net translations to get to the heart of difficult things. I am not a Trinitarian, and I am neither a JW or with the LDS church. I do not mind my conclusions overlapping any one of all the Christian denominations that exist.

Explaining
The promise

is that Christ will become king by inheritance from King David over Israel. This Israel is not fleshly Israel, but is the entire earth filled with righteous believers at the end of the 1000 years. At first, many unbelievers may be included. (keeping it short)
As such there is Christ the king and highpriest residing in the heavens, his subkings and under priests - number given, 144,000 literal or not, who shall rule with him and be priests with him.
Rev 5: 9 . . .because thou hast been slain, and hast redeemed to God, by thy blood, out of every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation, 10 and made them to our God kings and priests; and they shall reign over the earth.
Little flock:
Naturally, kings have subjects. Thus there are as is also natural a much smaller number of kings than there are subjects. This is the little flock mentioned in Luke 12:32 that will be given this privilege you quoted. Of course, if God wants to do so for other Christians who shall be subjects in the kingdom is up to him, and I cannot say that he will not do so. God does help all righteous people.
Subjects in the kingdom
These are named Great Crowd, or other sheep. At first, many non Christians shall also be resurrected as long as they aren't among the wicked.
Kingdom
If you need information on the kingdom and how, where, when, ask me.

Me
Though I believe God will supply us with our needs, not our lustful desires, I still believe that I have the responsibility to act as smartly as possible so that if I live beyond my means now that I have grown old, I must try to adjust to a smaller footprint and not rely on God to provide me as before.

I see that you have created in your own personal interpretation of the Bible. They don't look convincing to me, to be honest. Good to know your take on it. Thanks for sharing.

You are welcome. You should take time out to read Ps. 72, Daniel chapter 7. Daniel 2:44, 45.
