Can we be good people without religion?

Yes. Good morals are based upon reason and compassion, with no magical prerequisites.
I believe to find the true religion, find the people who are doing (not just claiming to do) what the true God commands in his Word, the Bible. (1 John 5:3, James 1:27) Chances are excellent, IMO, that representatives of the true religion have already visited your home, or otherwise made effort to contact you.
Many good people are not religious, whereas many that do espouse a faith are not decent people at all. In particular Christianity and Islam can be very abusive when the extremists of those religions try to force their faith on others with threats, like those of the unpleasant 'born again' dogma and ISIS!
Problem is everyone claims to be doing the "true " commands of God. If they didn't thinks so, why would they be attending that particular denomination? As far as representatives of this mysterious "true religion", I have been visited by representatives from the Baptist, the Methodist, the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Jehovah's Witnesses etc. and etc. Hmm, which one is the bestest truest church? They were all nice folks. Look, I know that you are a Jehovah's Witness, no problem. I just don't know why you don't just simply say something along the lines of, "Hey, I'm a Jehovah's witness, and I think we are the only true religion." It would save time in the discussion.
