Why Are We Here?

I joined this forum because I am taking a break from another forum where I have been a regular member for many years. When I joined and began to post here, I discovered that a friend from that other forum was also on this forum.

I am an old dog who will not learn any new religious tricks, meaning that I am stuck in my atheistic ways. I can respect different religious viewpoints, even though I may find them unnecessary. Being more introverted than what could be considered the average, online interaction is the only social life I have; the internet is an amazing thing, allowing one who is rather antisocial to be capable of socializing.

Amen, brother. Can I hear an amen for the internet?

No, this isn't one of those existential threads that discusses the meaning of life and what our purpose is here on earth. I'm afraid the purpose of this thread is much more mundane. I'm genuinely curious as to what makes people join a religious forum and stick around.

For me, I find that I joined RF as a result of my desire to further my spiritual education and work toward enlightenment. I find that reading insights of those of other paths gives me insight that I hadn't considered. I also enjoy having my statements questioned *glances at @Sunstone* because it prompts me to reflect on my beliefs and do further research into why I believe as I do. I will admit that another reason I stick around is for the pure entertainment value. There are those here that amuse me for various reasons.

So why do you hang out here?

I'm not sure I would call what I am doing here as hanging out.

I am here to see if anyone has furthered their spiritual education to the point where they have graduated, where they now know the responsibility that comes with what they know. Egos are important but not when considered more important than the message and the message is a thought, created by us that will satisfy each and everyone of us; and the will to implement it.

In my case, I have had an interest in people's beliefs and values for a long time. RF is a rare opportunity to discuss those directly.

It has all kinds of surprises as well, as you pointed out in the OP.

So far it is not as bad as other sites a person can post on. Sure, the Admins and Mods are biased one way or another but they tend to be more lenient here than other sites.
Other sites are loaded with trolls while this one isn't troll free but it definitely has less trolls than most do.

I'm here because I'm the idiot who said "yes" when @Quagmire asked if I wanted to become an admin. In fairness to myself, I did think it over for a solid month.

Do not just Believe 'Become', I am Sufficient.
What exactly are you considering "like minded?"
I give thanks to this forum, which has provided me with a really good overview of so many religions. I actually do spirit world activities, so my attempts to communicate seem to be offensive to most, here and elsewhere, because of a lack of frame of reference. I have learned to follow the inward path. I found a forum that has some, who are working on perfecting their energy bodies (spirit bodies), and who Journey/spirit quest within the world of spirits like I and a few others that I am loosely associated with. Thanks for asking. :)

Hey @Quintessence, ever see or read a fantasy/adventure story where one wizard is trapped by a curse to forever guard some some relic or realm until another sucker. . . I mean, um, another wizard comes along and inadvertently assumes the curse? :D

The question in the thread above.

Why are we here?

That's a good question.

We're here because of something we didn't see or learn before coming here.

For me is the consistency of alleviating myself of ignorance of people from other faiths. I occasionally go in the other DIR's and read some of the posts such as Satanists, Pagans etc. I've never dabbled in the left-hand path but I like reading some of what they write. I think what keeps me here or ultimately why I'm here is to learn from others who share their views (no matter how much I disagree). I think we all have something important to share and I believe in that alleviates the ignorance within us.
