Who is Mr. Six Hundred Sixty Six (666)

The bible says it is man Revelations 13:18 "This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666."
and the amount of gold Solomon recieved (is there a connection)
1 Kings 10:14 The weight of the gold that Solomon received yearly was 666 talents, [ 10:14 That is, about 25 tons

I remember reading that the leader of the seventh day adventists used the numeric values of the hebrew letters that comprised one of the titles that is given to the pope (which he never used). And said it added up to 666. And this is the reason they believe that the pope is the antichrist. But ironically enough, if you take the founder of the seventh day adventists name and do the same thing. Guess what number you get??? Hmmm.... Lets all think real hard here. Yes, thats right.... 666.
Here's what I heard in a class...I *believe* that this is my prof's unique idea, but I'm not absolutely sure.
If you write out the Roman numeral symbols in order, from 500 to 1, it makes this:
DCLXVI
The use of these first 6 Roman numeral symbols could likely represent the Roman Empire. Clearly, though, people couldn't go around saying that the Roman Empire was the devil for fear of even worse harrassment than they already faced. So, change it to Arabic numerals, and you get 666. The Roman Empire is/was the great Satan.
