5 Lies You’ve Been Told About the US Legalizing Marijuana

You need to read the forums Terms of service before the moderators come knocking on your door, for one thing personal attacks are strictly forbidden, secondly promoting illegal drug use is strictly forbidden, though they give a break to the pot heads because that's legal in some places.

Lighten up.

That wasn't a personal attack; it was a caricature. Forgive me for trying to infuse some light into this discussion.

And, I haven't promoted or endorsed any illegal drug use; more fabrication on your part; I merely stated facts from what I've seen - that's a long way from making a suggestion, promotion or endorsement.

Way to concede your argument btw.

This. The way some people talk, you'd think it'd be impossible for someone to graduate college with honors while using psychedelics and a bit of speed. Surely no one who is ever held in high regards would think of touching drugs.

Of course not.

All the winners in this world live in some 1950s Pleasantville where the local high school basketball team shoots every basket and every shirt is either perfectly ironed or just about to be ironed.

That's for the moderators to decide, I've seen multiple personal attacks on me, the person, which is not allowed, not my ideas, which is permitted, you're not above the rules, we all have to abide by them, I suggest you familiarize yourself with the Terms of Service before you are asked to take a time out!!

She has made no personal attacks against you, she did not promote illicit drug use, and you aren't a mod.
Drugs are for losers.
Way to complain about a personal attack against you and then make a broad-sweeping generalization of an attack on most people. Let's approach drugs honestly for once: Everyone who drinks their morning coffee is a drug user; those who use NSAIDs are drug users; those on psychotropic medications are drug users; enjoying a beer after work makes one a drug user; personally, I tend to agree with emerging research suggesting sugar is a drug.
As for "losers," this honest drug user graduated college with distinctions, is generally well liked and highly regarded, "certified" genius, no legal troubles, and with certain drugs I'm even feeling way better than I even ever thought possible.
And, lets not forget Franic Crick was tripping on LSD when he discovered the double-helix of DNA, Steven Jobs like pot and LSD, Hunter S. Thompson used many different drugs, Carl Sagan was a pot head, and of course there are many authors and musicians who are renowned, talented, successful, and drug users.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
They're not a far cry away from each other. They're all amphetamines.

Two points:

1. Meth, or any other amphetamine that is manufactured illegally runs the risk of adulteration;

2. Generalizing all people who might use amphetamine (or any other drug for that matter) in any context in a negative light in incredibly small minded; I happen to have met many people (including colleagues) who have used illicit hard stimulants without negative repercussions.

You seem like the type of cranky old guy who would sit on a fold out chair on his front lawn with a speed radar, screaming at cars that drive past: "yeah, drive like hell - you'll get there!!!"

I'd say go for it.

Knock yourself out.

Have fun.

No links to ANY studies at all of any kind and no substantial info on how Gorman gathered his info other then he says. Sounds like a man from a bygone era scraping at the walls in an attempt to hold his job.

Meet Tom Gorman, the man behind law enforcement's medical marijuana bill

That's because the personal attacks were removed from the thread.

Where did I state there was no danger? No where.
I do feel that we can probably by now safely assume pot is safer than Tylenol. Definitely way safer than narcotics.
For some, it seems they are just not happy unless you put a magnifying glass on top of what really seems to be a legit very low risk and make it sound something like "oh, yeah, by the way, this drug that has not one single documented case of a fatal overdose, it's dangerous and risky, don't 'cha know? Your OTC meds have killed, crippled, and addicted more, but watch out for that pot!"

The following "hard facts," with citations, are found in one of the sources provided by the CBS article you linked to:

Cannabis DUIs relatively uncommon after cannabis legalized for adults
Colorado law enforcement and courts did not track cannabis-impaired driving prior to 2014, the year adult-use cannabis sales began, which means there is no way to compare cannabis DUI occurrence before and after cannabis became legally available to adults. In 2014[1] and 2015[2] less than 15% of all DUI citations issued by state troopers involved suspected cannabis use, whether used alone or with other substances, and under 8% involved cannabis alone. Despite legal access to cannabis for adults, the overwhelming majority of impaired driving incidents in Colorado involve alcohol and drugs other than cannabis. The total number of cannabis-related DUIs decreased slightly (1.3%) from 2014 to 2015, but more data is needed to determine if the decline will become a trend.

Traffic fatalities not correlated with cannabis policy change
Data from the Colorado Department of Transportation shows that fatal car crashes are not correlated with medical marijuana regulation in June of 2009 or legalization for adult use in November of 2012 (Figure 1).[3] In 2014, 32.7% of all fatal crashes were alcohol-related[4] while only 12.3% of drivers involved in fatal crashes tested positive for cannabis[5]

National study shows no increased crash risk from cannabis
In the first large-scale case control study of drug and alcohol crash risk in the U.S., National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) researchers found no increased crash risk associated with cannabis use when controlling for demographic factors and alcohol use.[7] The most precisely controlled study of its kind,[8] NHTSA’s key finding contradicts the widely cited cannabis crash risk estimate of 92%, [9] which is found to greatly exaggerate cannabis crash risk due to methodological and measurement errors. [10] NHTSA’s findings are supported by a meta-analysis that found that studies that controlled for confounding variables and measured actual cannabis use typically found reduced or no crash risk associated with cannabis use. Why don't people ever admit outright that they just want to get high outright instead of going through all this?

Planly put, "I want to be high".

Simple and short.

Like people who say, "I want to get drunk".

I cant get high,I have asthma and it makes me sick eating or smoking it. I think its nasty. But Id like to see it legalized, maybe I can work for one of them. Itll bring new jobs plus cut back violent drug crimes, its worth it and bring money into the state.

More like cherry picked stats. What's the agenda behind the group? Just because you cite CBS sourcing someone else, doesn't mean it's true. Get to the source.

Colorado legalization report by anti-pot group suggests bad side effects
True. But also true is when Michigan went legal, that drug trade significantly pushed cartel weed out of the area. The money stays here with these developing drug trades. It's still drug trafficking, and won't be squeaky clean angels and saints, but they aren't killing journalists who try to reveal them.
Now, just fully legalize it at the federal level and you'll have no more drug trafficking for it, except in non-legal countries.

I'm cool with legalization of drugs just as long as the drug users don't use welfare to fix their health or economic situation from the abuse of drugs.

Drugs are for losers.

Lyndon!

You posted that you smoked weed in the past.

Hmmm, let me put on my Sherlock Holmes hat and logically deduce which of us is a loser.

Honestly, I don't care if you smoke as long as you're not hurting yourself or anyone else.

I've smoked before and have done some other stuff. You can call me a loser and I won't cry. Ok, maybe a little.
