Should Your Belief System Be Based On One Truth?

Should your belief system be based on what you think is the one truth or is it O.K. to have a mixture of beliefs from several religions?

If I were religious I think I'd find it hard to stick to one interpretation of our world. Tons of religions so if you're going to believe in anything you may as well pick your favourite concepts from your favourite systems. The Holy Joes might not appreciate this but they appreciate very little anyway...

I think it is vital that we all keep an open-mind. You get to see more of life that way. I think every religon has some TRUTH here, some TRUTH there. It is ALL(ways) interesting to discern.

In my religion I find nothing but the truth so I have no need to pick and choose from other religions and belief systems. However before I found my current religion I did find myself kinda picking and choosing between belief systems.

I think that every faith has a bit of the Divine truth in it, some just feel compelled toward one or the other. If you want to believe that your faith has truth that's fine just also realize that people aren't always going to agree with you. I think agreeing to disagree should be taught in all faiths.

Truth is where you find it.
But on a side note I would never mix Native American ceremony and say Wiccan ceremony. Cultrual theft is an issue for many Native American elders, and rightly so. There are many books out there that say they teach Native American spirituallity but they are full of neo-pagan junk and are not Native American at all. It misrepresents our faith and our heritage. :(
So if some one ever trys to sell you N.A sprituallity run the other way. We don't sell religion. ;)

I don't think there is any one truth that can sum up all we know about this world.

I think that Jesus said it well in John 14:6 "I am the way, the TRUTH, and the life". He didn't claim to know the truth, or help us find this truth, but claimed to be IT. A knowledge of truth comes from knowing Jesus, period.

Let me get this straight... You're implying that knowing Jesus is a prerequisite to understanding quantum mechanics?

I think that all religions started with the same "truth" and that "Man" has distorted it to suit himself, therefore creating disparity amongst us.

Anybody's belief system has a primary presumption to a truth and has elements of many other systems incorporated whether closely related or not. Perhaps the question should be "and" instead of "or"?

Christianity has an assumption of Christ sacrificed and incorporates the "golden rule" found in most other systems of belief.

That would be a different question altogether. Many people feel their religion is the one and only truth.

this is classic absolutism vs relativism

your religious believes can be either. a good example is buddhist and christian.
