"I am a Slav a peaceful Russian."

Would you believe one if one were to tell you that? To me it sounds a little strange because in reality one could be an ignorant turbulent Russian who always questions Russian ways.

What is one trying to sell you by stating that he is a peaceful Russian?

I'd probably respond:

Shalom I am a European a peaceful Briton.

No problems :)

Very good. I would reply, "good for you, I am a peaceful American. Stay that way (a peaceful Russian) and we'll have no problem." ;)

If it was a Russian immigrant to the U.S. telling me that he is peaceful, I would believe him.

The one thing that Russians are noted for, at least when they immigrate to the West, they are invariably quite critical of the regime of the country they left. Before 1917, the Russians who immigrated to America hated the Tsar and had no loyalty to that government. After 1917, the Russians who immigrated to America hated the Communist government, and they had no loyalty to that government either.

In actuality, I wouldn't care how peaceful they are, as long as they are law-abiding and have unquestioned loyalty to the United States.

I'd believe it.
Peaceniks can be anywhere.
(I worked with a couple Russian immigrants who really liked peace.)
