U.S. Religious Tolerance on the Rise

Actually, America has always been very tolerant of religions, the Founding Fathers had many involved in off "mainstream" religious "societies" (even secret cults - and not "secret" because of fear of reprisal, but "secret" because it helped with the "sales job" and made them even more attractive as if "tell me the secrets, what do you know that I don't?" - oh, ok, I will "initiate you into the secrets".

Some Fathers were atheists. Others into Egyptian "oracles" and wisdoms, especially in the 1920s.

Buddhism in America had a 100 year start over Hinduism. But then by the late 60s and especially in the early 70s Hinduism really grew.

Mormonism goes back over 100 years and is sort of a "true American religion" - is it Christian? Or is the a some things with hieroglyphics found in Philadelphia that got into the mix?

So... I am a Hindu. Sure, some will drag out some country bumkin story of the Kkk hung a Jew or something or "spit on a Hindu", heck - anyplace in the world it can happen.

But as I Hindu - I have NEVER encountered even one problem for being a Hindu. Never. In fact, mostly the other way around.

You know what is funny? The few places I actually encountered a real threat for being a Hindu were (1) in Mother India herself, in a largely Muslim area, and (2) my life literally threatened in open public in London by radical Islamic screaming banjees.

Oh yeah... I was outside a Hanuman temple in India in a crowd, trying to enter and - some Muslim cleric from a top a wall across the way looking down starts yelling at me, damning me for being a Western Hindu, real threats, mixed with Urdu.

Once I was quite good at Urdu. It had to do with a job assignment. Long story.

America is great. And becoming greater still. In fact, no better place to be for a Hindu or even a Muslim. Muslims are killed in Muslim countries by Muslims at rates so high it isn't even funny. So the nice one's would be better off in America, frankly. So long as you are nice, IMHO.

So I kid you not, I am in a Barnes and Nobles bookstore RIGHT NOW as I type this - I go in to get magazines. And in front of me is a guy picking up "All About History" magazine entitled "Myths and Legends" - Mythical Beings, Gods and Goddesses. Glossy cover. I pick one up. Then another.

This stuff is REAL popular in America, even if the mag was published in the UK.

It's great to be a Western Hindu in America. I love it. My odds of getting run over by a truck are lesser here than other places. Not that it can't happen. But a great nation. Even for Satanists. I remember the Church of Satan in S.F., a long time ago. Tolerated. Very much so.

God bless America.
