If oil companies control what technologies we invest in its a losing battle.
They don't.
There's a fundamental problem with such conspiracy theories.....
Suppose there's some great technology which would lessen demand for fossil fuels.
Let's say it's a materials advance resulting in the "adiabatic IC engine", aka "AICE".
The oil companies would try to suppress AICE in countries where they have influence.
But in scientifically advanced countries where they don't rule (eg, PRC), AICE would
be invented or stolen. After arising there, the cat would be out of the bag.
The same thing has been claimed for magical devices like the engine that runs on
water. But the proof of its impossibility lies in more than debunked thermodynamics
& chemistry....it's also in the fact that China would have good reason to steal it &
use it to clean up their air (which now matters to them).
If Big Oil suppressed fuel saving technologies, then why haven't they scuttled other
such ones, eg, Atkinson cycle valving, computer controlled valve actuation, hybrid
electric drive, computer transmission controls, infinitely variable transmissions,
computer engine controls, non-diesel cycle compression ignition? Fuel economy
for super duty pickup trucks is now as good as my son's little Subaru car.
Big Oil is pretty lousy at maintaining their conspiracy, eh.
