Kids and religion

Another thread reminded me of a book for children about religion I bought for my kids. Explains the various major world religions and what they believe and do. I think it's important to teach children other religions and let them choose what they believe.

What do you believe children should be taught about religions?

It's absolutely important to teach kids about religion. Or else, how can they make an unbiased decision on religion? Plus, religion is so complex. I consider it a way for children to start thinking philisophically at a young age.

On the subject of what kids should be taught, I think you described it best - something that teaches them about the religions, not which one is right or wrong.

I entirely agree with both of you. I think one problem is that the parents force the religion upon the child. Happened to me. My mom tried to raise me as a christian,
but obviously didn't follow through. Oh well.

Wow, this forum isn't just pretty. You learn stuff too.

Well, my parents didn't force it on me. Wish they did, in a way. Well, even though I believe Islam is the only true religion now, I still think you should give them a choice, let them learn about all religions. Then, they can make their own decisions.

Even though Islam is the religion to be accepted now by Allah, I am tolerant of othe religions. :)

i agree that children should be taught what the different religions of the world are and that parents shouldn't force religion on them.

Ephesians 6:4 makes it pretty clear to me

"Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord."

I will raise my children to christians, but if they want to go a different route, ultimately there is nothing I can do to stop them, try as I might.
