Ask about Jehovah's Witnesses

I was not always a Jehovah's Witness, but after extensive research I could deny no longer the evidence that was being shown to me. As Jehovah's Witnesses, we believe 100% everything that the Bible has to say, and we also don't believe in the Trinity, for the simple fact that there is no passage in the Bible that supports Trinitarianism, only scriptures that have been taken out of context. We also believe that one day, the righteous will live here on Earth in a paradise forever. Why do we believe this? Because the Bible says so.

What do I think of other religions? That question is too wide to answer. However, I know a significant amount about other religions through personal research.
Do you accept that the "Bible" was written by "Man", and has been translated many times, and therefore could have errors, omissions, untruths or distortions?

If not, please explain why you believe that after all this time, it tells us the "truth".

Hey WitnessofJah,
I'm curious what is the position of J.W.'s on Jews and Judaism?
Correct me if I am wrong, but one of the basic beliefs of modern Judaism is that man has an immortal soul that survives the death of his body. I am also aware that the Jews still follow the Mosaic law. Am I correct? :)

WOW! That means that the "False" believers don't go til the second resurrection!
My grandson could have told me that!
Just what is your definition of "True Believers?"
I am afraid if that is the best you can come up with, then you will have too many chiefs and not enough Indians!
The description of those in the first resurrection makes them SUPER SPECIAL, almost like Many are Called, but few are Chosen! DIG Deeper! :help:
As far as "False believers", God will only give these people a chance if Jehovah can see good deep in their hearts, not because they are evil.

As far as your "First Resurrection" question I have already answered it. Remember, I don't give my own opinion, I give the Bibles opinion: And they came to life and ruled as kings with the Christ for a thousand years. (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. Happy and holy is anyone having part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no authority, but they will be priests of God and of the Christ, and will rule as kings with him for the thousand years."—Revelation 20:4-6. This scripture refers to the 144,000 anointed Christians who will rule as Kings for 1000 years.

My definition of "True believers" (in this context, there are many) are people who have adhered themselves to God's principles and have been specially chosen by God (the remnant).

So when the Bible says "All of Israel shall be saved." You mean a Remnant or All of Israel?
Of what Tribe are You? How much of Gods principles are encompassed in the 613 laws? Of that 613 do you try to keep? What was nailed to His cross?
What did you mean by Jews keeping God's law? Immortal Soul is a Greek concept!
Each time you write there are more questions because you are so vague with your answers, or just repeat the verse. Occasionally a refferal which is unsubstantiated by scripture. ie. 144,000, are Hebrew , they maybe believers, but nowhere do you find a Christian going to heaven or are in the 144,000!:tsk:

I agree with alot of what you have posted. However I was wondering if you are counting the Rapture as one of the resurrections. Personally I believe the Rapture will be different from the first and second resurrection. What do you think?

The Bible was written by men who were inspired of God, and even though men "wrote" the Bible, it was actually God's thoughts and ideas that were being transmitted. 2 Timothy 3:16 says: "All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness."

The Bible may have been translated into many different languages are versions, but it's underlying principles and teachings remain the same. How do we know this? Well most museums actually have the original scrolls for us to compare todays translations to the original copies. Because you have asked this question, I will have to give a full answer. Read this:

"Between 1947 and 1955 what are known as the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. These old scrolls include copies of books of the Hebrew Scriptures. They date from 100 to 200 years before Jesus was born. One of the scrolls is a copy of the book of Isaiah. Before this was found the oldest copy of the book of Isaiah available in Hebrew was one that had been made nearly 1,000 years after Jesus was born. When these two copies of Isaiah were compared there were only very small differences in them, most of which were small variations in spelling! This means that in more than 1,000 years of copying there had been no real change!

There are more than 1,700 ancient copies of the various portions of the Hebrew Scriptures available. By carefully comparing these many very old copies, even the few mistakes copyists made can be found and corrected. Also, there are thousands of very old copies of the Greek Scriptures, some of which copies date back nearly to the time of Jesus and his apostles. Thus, as Sir Frederic Kenyon said: "The last foundation for any doubt that the Scriptures have come down to us substantially as they were written has now been removed."
—The Bible and Archaeology, pages 288, 289.

After reading the above, the proof cannot be refuted. The facts, dates, and arcchaelogical evidence speak for themselves.

How did I know that this was the truth? This is a question for another day. Long story short: Prophecy, complete harmony in the scriptures, a hope for mankind, and irrefutable evidence of the Bibles teachings (archaelogically, spiritually, logically).

Do you believe that men should never shave, or cut their hair? Do you believe that people should be stoned for swearing? Do you believe that eating such foods as pork or shrimp should be punishable by death? Do you believe that working on a saturday should be punishable by death? Do you believe that touching (in any way) a women who is undergoing her menstruation should be punishable by stoning?

Most strongly, why do you believe that people should not recieve blood, if in need of it?

Is it not circular logic to say that the bible is inspired by God, merely because the bible says so? How is this a proof?

If I write a couple pages and then, at the end, write that what I wrote was divinely inspired, does that make it so?

First of all, let me just say Ronald that for future reference, can you word your questions more clearly next time?;) You are hopping from point to point without explaining yourself clearly and concisely.

The Bible backs this statement regarding the 144,000:

"And I saw, and, look! the Lamb standing upon the Mount Zion, and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand having his name and the name of his Father written on their foreheads." (Revelation 14:1)

How do we know that the 144,000 will go to heaven?

Revelation 20:44 states (refering to the 144,000)"And they came to life and ruled as kings with the Christ [not, after the Christ] for a thousand years." It is just as Jesus Christ said to his faithful apostles on Passover night, after he had set up a new celebration that came to be called the Lord’s Supper or Evening Meal: "You are the ones that have stuck with me in my trials; and I make a covenant with you, just as my Father has made a covenant with me, for a kingdom, that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones to judge the twelve tribes of Israel."

Additional to that, we know that God's place for humans (apart from the 144,000) are not in heaven, but on earth. Pslams 37:11 states: "But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace."

Ronald, instead of refuting what I say, refute it with scriptual backing and references instead of giving me your personal opinion.

You came here saying ask Me a question! I asked and you don't answer! Do you want to debate me? That would be a change in venue, wouldn't it?
I can read English, so when you answer, givea complete an answer, not just another verse. I can read! I have read the Bible.
If you want to ask the questions start another thread and ask away. Here, I want you to answer my questions. Who are the ones, who are in the first resurrection? I personally don't know of anyone who has been beheaded, no one has found out what the mark is. Nor the beast, so you may have bowed down to it, are you sure you haven't?

Yes that could be right.. I get confused from time to time with denominatinos.. UGH.. Sorry .

All those particular laws you have just mentioned were part of the Mosaic law of Israelite times. These laws reflect the tradititions, cultures and protocols of ancient Israelite times - not the times of now (a 21st century society). Those laws no longer became applicable when Jesus came to Earth, because a better set of laws replaced them - the laws of Christ. God promised: "Look! There are days coming, . . . and I will conclude with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah a new covenant; not one like the covenant that I concluded with their forefathers." The Ten Commandments—the nucleus of the Mosaic Law—were written on stone tablets. But of the new covenant, Jehovah said: "I will put my law within them, and in their heart I shall write it."—Jeremiah 31:31-34.

What is the purpose of this new covenant (new law)? It is to produce a nation of kings and priests to bless all mankind (a future hope). The Mosaic Law covenant never produced this nation in the fullest sense, for Israel as a whole rebelled and lost out on their opportunity. This new covenant would be more than just reading off of a stone of tablets, it would be a set of laws that we could use on a personal level, a law that we could use to look deep into our heart to become a better worshiper of God.

2 Timothy 3:16 still holds true however. All word "is inspired of God and applicable". Even though we may not follow the Mosaic laws today, we can still learn from them. They show us the organization he had among his people, how much justice God has, and how he delt with his people.

Most strongly, why do you believe that people should not recieve blood, if in need of it?
This is a very wide topic, and I may start a thread on it to go through every avenue and misconception. For now, I'll keep it short but sweet: As Jehovahs Witnesses, we believe that you should accept the Bible in full or not at all. In the Bible, Blood is a very sacred thing to God, and he say Genesis 9:4 says: "Only flesh with its soul—its blood—YOU must not eat., Leviticus 17:14 says : "For the soul of every sort of flesh is its blood by the soul in it. Consequently I said to the sons of Israel: "YOU must not eat the blood of any sort of flesh, because the soul of every sort of flesh is its blood. Anyone eating it will be cut off." And finally, a NT prohibition (Acts 15:29): "To keep abstaining from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled and from fornication.. This is the main skeletal structure of why we don't accept blood - because the Bible says we should'nt. I will elaborate more on this at a later time.

Is it not circular logic to say that the bible is inspired by God, merely because the bible says so? How is this a proof?

If I write a couple pages and then, at the end, write that what I wrote was divinely inspired, does that make it so?
The reason why that is not true is because the Bible cannot be considered a normal book. The Bible is not inspired because it says so, but because of it's works and fruitage. Druidus, name me another book which was written over a period of 1000's of years, has prophecies which have come true 100's of years before they were told, were written by prophets who lived in different time periods who had never met eachother but the Bible's message still remains harmonious, was scientifically correct in an era where scientific knowledge was poor, and has archaelogical evidence to support it's message?

Ronald, I have already answered your question! Jehovah's Witnesses teach from the Bible, and nowhere else. These scriptures are the word of God and should be the primary source of an arguement. I don't give my "own personal opinon" - I give the Bible's opinion.

In Laymans terms, the people in the first resurrection are the Anointed of christ who have been specially chosen by him to serve him in heaven for a 1000 years as kings. These are the only people on earth who will go to heaven. The rest of the humans resurrections' will remain here on earth to live forever on a paradise earth.

As Jehovah's Witnesses, we don't believe in the rapture. The word "rapture" does not appear in the Bible a single time. The idea of a rapture was first thought out when 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 was taken out of context and was misunderstood. If this were to be true, the rapture theory would contradict much of the Bible, however this is not the case. The Bible clearly states the hope for mankind (apart from the anointed), that for all humans, our hope is eternal life on earth under the rule of God’s Kingdom.

was jesus crucified on a pole or a cross?
A stake (a form of pole) but not a cross.

In classical Greek the word (stau·ros´) rendered "torture stake" in the New World Translation primarily denotes an upright stake, or pole, and there is no evidence that the writers of the Christian Greek Scriptures used it to designate a stake with a crossbeam.

The Bible clearly states (Acts 5:30): "The God of our forefathers raised up Jesus, whom YOU slew, hanging him upon a stake."

Jesus died a Roman death, and back in Jesus time, it was a customary Roman procedure to inpale humans by hanging then on a stake - there is even archaelogical to support this, since "stakes" have been found on ancient Roman settlements.

Here is the definition of the "stake" in the dictionary: http://dictionary.cambridge.org/results.asp?dict=B&searchword=stake
