Buddhism for Beginners

Hello everyone! I'm Heather. I'm 23 and a Christian. I've always been interested in the ways of Buddhism and have even considered looking into it. I just want to learn first, though.

What would be the most simplistic research/book I could look at to learn the ways of Buddhism? I've tried a little research on my own, but it has been hard because there is just so much information and words that I am not used to.

I am looking for something that can really break it down so it's easy to understand.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

Lion's Roar is a pretty good site -

You might also try a book called simply "Happiness" by Matthieu Ricard - I have read it a few times ...

Hope you find what you are looking for!

First, I must ask, what type of Buddhism appeals to you the most? Early Buddhism, Theravada Buddhism, Mahayana Buddhism, Zen, Tibetan/Vajrayana Buddhism, or modern eclectic ("lite") Buddhism? Here is a post I previously wrote which summarized some of the major differences, from a broad perspective.

You beet me to it. I have read Living Buddha Living Christ several times. A very useful book that shows the similarities and differences between the two religions in a good spirited way.

I like how Thay equates being filled with the Holy Spirit to being filled with Mindfulness. It took me quite a while to finally understand and agree with him about that.
