Hey Uruk!
Glad to have you here. " Knock and the door will be opened, seek and ye shall find".

I am a catholic christian who believes that God is very real, alive, and hears us. There is no doubt in my mind, at the moment. Does this mean that I have all the answers? Emphatically, No!

I too seek, and this place is the perfect place to come and contemplate your beliefs and understandings and get the full view of the thinking of the brothers and sisters of this universe. I pray that the Almighty will send you enlightenment and lead you to complete understanding.

Enjoy your time here. There are souls here who have great insight. You have come to the right place. It is for the most part, a very peaceful and accepting place to be. Mind you know lad, this place can become addicting! But it is a very welcoming environment, there is no bashing here! We are truly all one here, this is my true feeling for all who come to this place. We will all have the definitive answer when we pass over to ......................and no-one is exempt from that experience in the long run, eh? Blessings to you my brother.

Joyfully in Jesus,
Martha

Bible study might be fun but if you really want to get into the nuts and both of that faith Chrisitian history is infinitely more fascinating.

Yes, bible study has become a lot more facinating! But, a little scarry, too. And maybe a little decpetive to my family. My wife sees me reading the bible she gets so excited because I haven't been going to church so much, lately. She thinks I'm trying to get closer to God. But, I'm really trying to find out if all the problems I'm reading about concerning the bible are really there. Well, maybe in some way I'm still trying to hang on to my Christian faith. But, learning about history has also opened new doors to my bible study. For instance, I had no idea Gallileo caught it from the Catholic Church for discovering the world was round rather than flat. House arrest for the rest of his life! Gallileo got in trouble because most church leaders thought the bible implied the world was flat! So, now I'm reading the bible to see if the implications of a flat earth are really there. A whole new world! It gets scarry though. Man! how much of my life have I wasted if my faith is only man made?! But, the other side of the coin, though, is . . . well . . . . I'll just say . . . that the lake of fire sounds like it hurts a lot!

Incidently that "evolution thingy" is convincing to the scientists in biology and the other organic sciences and I gotta figure if it is good enough for them than hey it should be good enough for others too.

Yeah, I didn't give evolution a second thought at all. I would always say, "those crazy scientist are just making that stuff up . . . . just like those dinosours".

But, then, I thought about archeology. Finding a mummy isn't too different from digging up the bones of a homo erectus specimen is it? I can believe that king Tut and Nefertari when their bones are escavated, why disbelieve when they find bones and fossils of past forms of humans. Something I'm forced to think about.

I hope you stick around because there are alot of people on here that were where you are now and with the flow of information on RF I think you will have direction, in whatever direction you choose, within a few months. . . . . maybe you can drag your wife back in here one day.

I think I'll be sticking around. I can only post when my family isn't looking over my shoulder. I'm not ready for them to know any of this about me, yet. I don't think they are ready to know this about me, either. Anyway, my wife, I doubt she'll participate. She's not into having a religious debate and she is easily exasperated by digging into deep philosophical discussion. She's just not into it. Besides, I don't what her to read any of this stuff I've said so far. ;)

Are my rambelings growing beyond the bounds of this thread?

Hmmm. Is that proper Southern-speak? I would think it would be "Y'all can really stick to y'all." :D

Hmmmm . . . . maybe you've got a point!

Then again . . . . y'all is supposed to be "you all". "Ya" is guess is the singular form of "you". We can't seem to accept that you is singular and plural.

I hear a lot of people around me say "feets", too. They have problems saying foot or feet. Southern-speak is so interesting, huh?

By the way, do you buy groceries, or do you "make groceries". I hear that a lot, too.

I never, ever make groceries. Once in awhile, I buy them. Mostly, I eat fast food. :D

Okay, now you've got me going. I'm going to start a new thread about differences in English usage throughout the US. I think it will be fun to compare the words we use. Watch for it...

Yeah . . . . I'm guilty of eating more than "making groceries". And, Fast food, at that.

I'll keep an eye out for that thread!

Oh, and if you're really interested in differenced of how people speak, check out the differences between british english and american english at the following site:

effingpot <dot> com <slash> motoring <dot> html (I can't post url's yet. I understand how that is. spam and all . . . .)

Really neat.

here's my last one . . . . do you put sugah on your cereal, or sugar?

what about your grits?

Okay, let me leave that alone! Now we're getting into food differences!

thank you for your warm greeting. I try to keep that in mind when in my search . . . that I don't know everything. And we can't (shame that). Maybe I just can't to rationalize every aspect of my faith.

You say you, too seek? Seek after what, exactly? A closer walk with God and an understanding of your faith.

My wife works for the diocese in our city, but we're not catholic. the first time I went to mass, it was a vietnamese mass celebration for thet, the chinese new year! didn't understand one word of it! but, it was beautiful.

the funny thing was . . . . an asian woman turned around after service and shook my hand and kindly greeted me and said . . . . wow, that was neat. but . . . I didn't understand a word anyone said!

I was quite puzzled. then she explained that she only spoke chinese. vietnamese was a foreign language for her as well as for me!

interesting where our assumptions can lead us!

-Don't be afraid that your life will end, be afraid that it will never begin.

Thanks for the welcome.

Those two quotes you have say a lot to me.

Once, an co-worker of mine, who was approching an atheist world view, told me that perhaps true prayer was what you did with your hands. That stuck with me, being quite religious at the time. So, your quote really stuck out to me, especially with you labeling yourself as atheist. *Sometimes* deeply religious people fail to *do* what is right and only say what sounds right. But, I guess all people do that, regardless. But, I for one, was like that, and I was in denial about it, too, for a long time.

And, your second quote is what I sometimes fear. Maybe unfounded inhibitions formulated from my time around certain christian circles of influence has caused me to not even start living yet! That's firghtning if this is all there is to our existance . . . . just as well as if there is an afterlife, too.
