The horrible dream

I had a horrible dream, and am open to dream interpretures (or for that matter dream ™entrepreneurs™ who make a living at it) who have had a similar dream and what happened later after the like dream, or opinions on the dream.

The dream may have been related to what I was doing immediately before going to bed. As some may know, I am about to retire. I was in a text message conversation with a co-worker who had initiated the text message thread. He is also going to retire. He wanted me to "check some numbers" for him related to all this, however basically it turned into a "who is better at math" contest, I had a tiny calculator and tired eyes and he was acting like he is smarter than me. This went on for over one hour before it ended in which I had a headache and went to bed with no final conclusions as to the "numbers" even though I know I am right.

Math is not math.

I dreamed I was getting off a big bus with tourists. This included one person who may have been a caricature of someone who used to work with me but was not the same person as the one in the "math contest" before going to bed. No, this other person in the dream is not me, the person isn't even close.

We are at some theme park, and I am walking with a group exiting from the bus to the "tiger's den" so-called "animal adventure".

Some say, they don't want to go into the "tiger's den animal adventure" but there is also a challenge as to who is a scaredy-cat or not. About 1/3rd of us go in, including me, while the others go to buy "pink popcorn".

We enter a HUGE concrete building with dim lights, there are no chairs so it isn't a "sit and watch the movie" theatre ride. We sit on the floor here and there, some just stand. Then we hear the sound of some cage door making a racket at the far end of this huge room that sounds exactly like the Lions Den at the San Francisco Zoo circa 1970s during the "feeding time" when lions and tigers were let through into caged areas of a huge room full of people who watch the lions and tigers get fed raw meat by custodians dressed in funny gray uniforms with big keys hanging from their sides and long pointed metal "kabob sticks" about 7 feet long in which they put the raw meat onto the ground so the lions and tigers can eat it after they lick it. There was always one lion who would roar VERY loud at least three times at which time more children and people would rush in from a mile away.

Not sure if the past was influencing this dream. But this huge cement building with dim lights that I found myself in during the dream which I just had about 30 minutes ago had that same "damp smell".

Then after the sound and racket of the "cage door" opening from the back of the room - no cage was observed in the dream, just the distinct sound - a HUGE tiger enters from the back of the room and is free to "go about" as the shocked audience standing and sitting either react with open jaws or acting like "it's cool, I'm cool" thing and one says "that's it, I'm outta here". The person who I once worked with who left the company about 20 years ago says, "I have to cook my breakfast, be back later to see the pet tiger" and starts to head for the exit.

I am now sitting on the floor in meditation posture, closer to the exit than the tiger, crossed legs but eyes open and thinking the tiger doesn't look like a "pet tiger". Now some idiots up towards the front are, like, flipping and whipping some heavy blanket at the tiger. The tiger goes right for the heavy big blanket like a cat playing with a toy, but it still doesn't look like a "pet tiger" even though one person in the group with the blanket - a blanket that was placed there as part of the "animal adventure" for the purpose to "play" with the tiger - some lady in her 40s with horn rimmed glasses says, "Look Johnny, it's a pet tiger" to some man that looks like he wants to leave immediately.

Then the tiger rips the blanket while pulling it away with exposed claws and then turns it's head 90 degrees and gives a "arrrreee" sound showing teeth at a boy eating "pink popcorn", suddenly the group is shocked, moving away and heading to the exit.

The tiger is now heading right in my direction. Some horrified guy gets up in front of me about four feet away and runs for the exit bugeyed leaving his heavy jacket laying on the floor. I am too scared to move - I start to say Om Shivaya very scared in my breath, the tiger goes right to the jacket and starts to claw it and chew on it and whip it.

The tiger's head is huge. It is panting loud as it "plays" with the jacket, I can literally feel it's hot breath on my face and I am too horrified to move thinking it will attract the tiger to directly come after me. Some voice announces "we are having issues with our lighting" over a speaker from the far side of the huge room as the tiger is now really whipping the jacket to shreds as it "plays" about four and then three feet in front of me now.

I wake up. I head to the bathroom in darkness saying out loud "I am in the tiger's den" three times waking up my wife. She is not interested however in why I am saying this outloud but wants to go back into sleep. I turn on all the living room lights, and now type this dream out in writing. I may check the pre-markets to see the early indicators or go back to bed since today is my vacation day. But I can't. Because of that tiger.

Here's a first guess: you think you're prepared for what's coming, but you're afraid that you're not; that what's coming might be a big, ferocious tiger instead of a nice peaceful pink candy retirement.

Ultimately dream interpretation is down to the person themselves as its about what association you have with specific ideas or images. (So its not advisable to spend money on someone interpreting it. ;) )

But at a guess the tiger is a symbol of something that you think is a problem but other people are very complacent about to the point of putting themselves at risk.

It also suggests that you are anxious about something that outwardly appears normal (i.e. Is a domesticated "pet") is actually a really serious threat and could get out of control (i.e. The Pet tiger stops playing nice).

If its related to your retirement and the math, it may well be a fear that your co-workers are incompetent or under-estimate the risks of running a business and that you sense the "numbers" (as profit and loss) are a wild animal that cannot be tamed the same ways bears and bulls symbolise market trends.

But I'm really just guessing as its what strikes a chord that will make sense of the dream to you. It makes good story btw (as its obviously still very vivid) and the announcement about "we're having a problem with the lighting" as the tiger is on the prowl is almost comic.

It means you spend far too much time in an unhealthy situation. You should have been true to yourself and gave your honest opinion about the math questions instead of letting yourself be lumped in with the pink popcorn people by the other guys ego which is big like a tiger.

Dreams are the language of the soul.
They are an opportunity for us to learn something about ourselves.
You must turn the dream within.
I believe this is a key to understanding what it means to you.

You're afraid of what is to come in your life, your retirement.

You were in a meditation pose, a position that you are probably familiar with, trying to maintain your composure while the others do what they do, they were either near panic or in denial.

I think you see people's nature the way I see people, you see their motivation, you see them as control freaks, having irrational levels of fear, or being angry towards others because they didn't get the life they wanted.

The voice that announces "we are having issues with our lighting" might be authority, government, that tries to say something to calm the population even when the population is in extreme danger.

Thank you all for your perspectives, advice and revelations!

Probably as some say, it has to do with the pending retirement!

But at the same, I think this tiger is also a bit real... perhaps come to put the retirement issue front and foremost, yet a real helper and not just a fantasy per say.

Tonight before going to bed, I concluded the Tiger (now capital T) is actually another personal fellow traveler or "totem companion spirit" who is his own personality that, while the Tiger would eat me if given the chance, the Tiger will also be a companion in future adventures if only I give the Tiger some respect and welcome.

Which I did.

I even gave a nickname to my new Tiger animal-force-companion:

"Yellow Tuxedo" or Tux for short.

He joins the other companions. I make no bones about it, sure Tux can be a bit dangerous but like any of the other totems that folks have, Tux if treated just right and simply allowing one to lend an ear and listening to what he has to say is enough to win him over such that he won't "eat you" but rather be a great fellow at tea time. He joins The Badger and others into the Strange Tropics Club.

DEFINATELY worried about retirement. The tiger represents the effects in your life you have no control over, you know it's power and what it is capable of, but you find yourself in its environment, (the cement smelly themed area) Retirement means that NO ONE has any control over you ever again. No boss to placate, no fellow workers to get on with. Some people fall to pieces without this kind of structure. Enjoy your retirement. It's the third age apparently!
