The data looks like they are at least from 2011 or even further back. I don't know, I got bored trying to trace back that aspect of the poll.

The term "new study" is misleading as they used data from 2010 and their discussion involves other research which could be older.
it's like a constant now bogus shiaaaaat.

Hows bout we just ban the concept of surnames? I've never liked the Normans and their Old French conventions anyhow!

Voted for women to chose.

Its 30 votes to 0. So we've found something that RF unanimously agrees on.

Half of American Adults Think It Should Be Illegal for Married Women to Keep Their Last Names

The best/worst line in the article.

What's more, in an earlier study, people who believed women should change their names when they get married should do so because it "prioritizes their marriage and their family ahead of themselves."

The man doesn't have to prioritize the marriage I guess or put his family first.

50% of american adults Well lets see, comments and poll.

A woman who lives nearby uses three names in order to obtain credit cards etc. Her maiden name, first marriage name and present marriage name.

So....... maybe some Americans think that folks should only use one name? :)

Where a couple are going to marry, and the woman does not want to have to adopt the groom's surname, they could always choose a surname that both partners like, and then the groom (or both) can change to that name by deed-poll or how ever it's done in their country.

The Spanish practice is to keep both your fathers and mothers names.
Eg. First name> Fathers name .>Mothers name. Your husbands name, if used at all, is not your legal name.

This arrangement make your lineage entirely clear, and helps to show which generation you belong to.

In cousin marriages children can end up with a repeated last names.
This tends to confuse Americans.

Yep My wife is Castro-Dombroski. The problem for me is the name gets to long. I would hate to have to legally sign my wife's name she even has a long middle name.

When I lived in Spain, under Franco. I was amazed to find that a signature with out a flourish was not legal.
When I signed my residency papers I did it in the usual British way. I was told to do it a gain with a flourish underneath. It was a struggle to understand what they were on about.

And to think some folks have said I'm off the wall for decrying the tradition of women changing their name as being an archaic and inherently sexist one...

Ho about the men take their partners last name instead? Why don't we do it that way?

I'm surprised the there are not millions more couples who use both the wife and husbands names when they marry.

After all it sounds rather posh to have a double barreled name. In the bad old days in Britain many couples even had triple barreled surnames.

There probably are millions of couples with both names. It is a custom of many Central Americans. My wife for instance is legally Castro-Dombroski

I'd say she's more actor than saint. Pretending to think you're funny, pretending to think you're handsome, pretending to like bacon, pretending to think you're smart, ....
She doesn't do those things.
She does something far more impressive.....she puts up with me.
