What is the Truth?

allfoak

Alchemist
If i were to ask you a question, would you tell me the truth?
If you answered yes, then does this not imply that we all know the truth?
Is there any question that you cannot answer truthfully if you desire to do so?

Isn't it easy to know the truth?

I subscribe to a version of the Correspondence Theory of Truth. The truth or falsity of a proposition is a property of its relationship to a state of affairs. The Correspondence Theory has some problems, but seems to be the least problematic of the three main theories of truth, and the best model we currently have for what is truth.

Philosophically speaking that is.

But Isn't the best model you?

Through education and miraculous infusion of knowledge... That is what the Holy Spirit is supposed to do. Pray for the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
I am going with the miracle part.:)
The whole "education" thing does not appeal to me.

Philosophically speaking, there are three main theories of truth. The correspondence theory, the semantic theory, and the deflationary theory. Of lesser importance are the coherence theory and the pragmatic theory.

The notion that "the best model is you" is philosophical gibberish. It seems to confuse the question of how we come to know something with the question of what is or isn't true. Those are related, but distinct questions.

What makes somethings have that quality and somethings not have that quality?
It either does or doesn't. Sometimes there is no way of knowing for certain. Everything still naturally has the quality of being real/true or falsehood, we just sometimes have no way of knowing.

This is not a criticism, but merely an observation: I get the impression that the question, "what is truth", isn't something you've spent much time studying as of yet. If not, you're in for a lot of fun. It's a fascinating question.
