What creates terrorists?

Doesn't it seem like most terrorists are Religious people?? Please explain why you think this is. I'd say getting bullied, poverty, and humiliation all increases the likelihood of terrorists and military Dictatorships, but what is it about Religion that creates terrorists?

Lots of terrorism is not religious in nature, it is generally about giving yourself into some broader millenarian narrative though.

I think homophobia is a big contributor, because it produces very angry and twisted young people who have trouble living and will jump at a chance for redemption.

Other terrorists? They form in cells, The cells grow and then split into other cells. Like humanity crawling out of a primordial ooze, forming monkeys that turn into man and divide into terror cells.

I guess most suicidal terrorists hold some form of afterlife belief.

But I don't think that correlates all that strongly or directly with terrorism proper.

Terrorism, far as I can tell, is usually caused by the perception that one's social environment is unfair and unreceptive in such a way as to demand violent action. That usually comes from failed or strongly discriminating societies, which make the desperate life of a terrorist seem appealling by comparison.

Military "counter-terrorism" is a major cause of terrorism, because it so easily lends itself to feeding such a perception.

What creates terrorists are violent and harmful ideologies forced or coerced onto a person via religious texts and in group/out group brainwashing.

Surely we have our own terrorists ? I'm a former terrorist, calm down GCHQ & NSA, because I was in the UK military but our form of terrorism is acceptable because we are the good guys ! My dad was also a terrorist because he was a solidier in WW2, he never spoke about the horrors he must have witnessed.

Religion and politics are both tools used to recruit terrorists, as is nationalism.

What a messed up world this is ! And we are led to believe that we are the most intelligent species on the planet !!! I would strongly disagree. I would argue that we are the least intelligent species on the planet !

Terrorists are created by material conditions created by capitalism including imperialism.

The reason why it seems religious is that the media doesn't categorize most national movements as "terrorism".

I agree with your first statement, although I would suggest that the material conditions create desperation in people, and desperate people often turn to religion. Obviously, religion doesn't "turn" them into terrorists, otherwise the majority of the Earth's population would be terrorists. But it might give those who are already over the edge anyway something to grasp onto or some sort of "cause" to fight for.

As for your second sentence, the media haven't been very consistent when it comes to categorizing "terrorists," so the term itself has become rather useless.

What creates terrorists?

Ignorance and emotional instability - identified, manipulated, and exploited by those with extreme agendas and no moral compunction about using violence or death in pursuit of these agendas.

Good point! I wasn't trying to argue that all terrorism or even 90% was Religious however. It still seems like most of it is though.

Thanks for clarifying. I do agree with you that most forms of terrorism we see today has a religious basis.
