I recently ran across this article.....
http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/01/donald-trump-2016-authoritarian-213533
It struck me as just another vapid hit piece from the left because when I talk to conservatives,
most dislike him, but they dislike Hillary's big government (authoritarian) agenda even more.
This seems the opposite of Politico's claim.
But I live in a teensy weensy little bubble, so I dare not make my perspective writ large.
So I ask you conservatives what you think.

Note:
The libertarians I know who voted for Trump all unanimously found her more authoritarian.
I know that Democrats voted for him, but I don't know any personally. I won't survey them.

Well, I never had a conservative president or governor tell me I had to buy a substandard unaffordable health care policy designed to pay, not mine, but someone who will not work for a living's medical bills. Hillary and president Obama are certainly more authoritarian. Conservative and libertarian folks that I know just want the government to leave us alone and let us keep more of what we work for.

Did their poll literally just ask people "Do you want the next President to be more or less authoritarian?"

Oh I see it.

"These questions pertain to child-rearing: whether it is more important for the voter to have a child who is respectful or independent; obedient or self-reliant; well-behaved or considerate; and well-mannered or curious. Respondents who pick the first option in each of these questions are strongly authoritarian."

Hmm...

I said about the same. I want them to be more authoritarian in taking on the issues of political corruption, trade deals/tariffs, immigration policies and ending the nonsense in Syria and Yemen; but I also think the government needs to be less authoritative when it comes to work regulations and education. So I'd say about the same, but emphasizing and deemphasizing different aspects.

I think the Trump supporters are authoritarian. Isn't the policy of men like Pence to stuff Christianity down everyone's throats authoritarian enough? And calling supporters of affordable health care authoritarian is easy enough when you can afford yours.

If any one is about to say "you don't belong in this DIR", please note that I've always voted for the UK Conservative Party, and in France I'd vote Front National.

It depends on one's perspective doesn't it. Pence would say he supports 'religious freedom', including the freedom of a business to serve whoever it wants and deny service to homosexuals. Further as an alleged constitutional conservative he would be for more limited government, not more authoritarian one, though who knows how much of that he would compromise as Trump's VP.
