How do you pray for guidance, forgiveness, deliverance and preservation

Mine is slightly different than David's. I say:

Please G-d, make @whirlingmerc realize that ain't nobody going to click through 10's of slides. Grant him the understanding to realize that if he'd like to post something that people will read, he should just type it out like Your other posters, O L-rd. Teach him Your ways of normal posting, so that we can all respond in kind. And let us say: Amen.

How do you pray for guidance, forgiveness, deliverance and preservation?

There are certain prayers that have been revealed for guidance, asking for forgiveness and deliverance and prayers for our safety and preservation but I am reminded of a manner of approaching prayer that may be of interest here:

Step 1: Pray and meditate about it.

Use the prayers of the Messengers of God as they have the greatest power. Then remain in silence of contemplation for a few minutes.

Step 2: Arrive at a decision and hold this.

This decision is usually born during the contemplation. It may seem almost impossible of accomplishment, but if it seems to be an answer to prayer or a way of solving the problem, then immediately take the next step.

Step 3: Have determination to carry the decision through.

Many fail here. The decision, budding into determination, is blighted and instead becomes a wish or vague longing. When determination is born, immediately take the next step.

Step 4: Have Faith and confidence that the power will flow through you and the right way will appear, the door will open, the right thought, the right message, the right principle or the right book will be given you. Have confidence, and the right thing will come to your need. Then, as you rise from prayer, take at once Step 5.

Step 5: Act.

Act as though it had all been answered. Then act with tireless, ceaseless energy. And as you act, you, yourself, will become a magnet, which will attract more power to your being, until you become an unobstructed channel for Divine Power to flow through you.

Many pray but do not remain for the last half of the first step. Some who meditate arrive at a decision, but fail to hold it. Few have the determination to carry the decision through, still fewer have the confidence that the right thing will come to their need. But how many remember to act as though it had all been answered? How true are those words-

How might it be the same or different than how David prayed

hello.
we can pray in two ways.
we can directly request our needs from God or recite the very excellent prayers from prophet mohammad and his ahlulbayt (peace be upon them)
like doa kumayl, aboohamzeh, joshan, iftetah, different types of salavats, doa arafah from imam husayn, one independent book of doa from imam sajjad etc.

i have decision to post different doas in this site.

these doas are full of divine love, mercy, kindness, compassionate and great for recognizing god, love in him and sincerely obeying him.

for example here you are one link of doas from imam sajjad.
before, i should mention that doa means pray and supplication.

The pose in which you pray- doesn't really matter, cause in Bible we read people praying to God, while sickbed, standing, sitting and etc. The main thing is to believe that your petitions will heard. And to believe it, person needs to know God as the person, his qualities and purpose.

Honest self humiliation without self-dramatization. How one self sees himself inside the true God from which the self derives.

God answers in His language from an origin of a moment that does not exists yet. Which is called inspiration. So its not God who change the world for the self but the self through God. Even if God is ahead He wants the self which derives from God to follow His guidance and speak in His language to the world.

Reach out to forces Above or Below or Within, around us or beyond us,, and just communicate, verbally or in your mind. Open your heart and thoughts to answers and interpret them as you Will. Contemplate them, let them sink in and affect your inner universe as well as your outer universe.
