Hi! Perennialist Christian Here

Hello. I'm an American female and soon I'll be going to Queen's University in Canada to study religion. I'm so excited! Currently, I'm in Japan and religiously it's a great place to conduct an anthropological study on religion, as most Japanese aren't religious, yet seem to act in ways that conform to the peace-loving, and self-sacrificing values, morals and ethics of many religions.

As a perennialist, I am a practicing Christian, yet I do believe that salvation can be found in many other religions. Basically, no truth or wisdom comes to man except through God's inspiration. Christ is indeed the TRUTH, and TRUTH is TRUTH regardless of whether one finds it in the Bhagavad Gita or in 2 Peter 3:1. I love God and his inexhaustive plan for all of those who act in peace and love. Well, that's me in a nutshell. I just know I'm going to love being here.

I am delighted to meet a like-minded soul! I agree with what you said above. To think otherwise,IMHO, would be not to be Christian (for me, even if that need not apply to others)

Please feel free to check out our guide for our newer members! (Though some of it is still being updated, I'm afraid.) Also, please know that you can be comfortable asking questions at any time!

I look forward to seeing you about the forum.:)

Welcome to the Forum! Happy to have you here!

Are you currently studying in Japan in affilitation with a university?

I'm curious about the faculty at the Canadian school you'll attend. Could you tell us something about them and their academic interests?

I assume you're talking about going to the Canadian school for graduate school? Is that for a masters or doctorate, then?

Again, welcome to the Forum! I think you might find us to be among the most diverse religious communities on the internet. I certianly hope that will fit with you!

Hey Sunstone. Thanks for the warm welcome. My stay in Japan has everything to do with the JET Program. Have you ever heard of it? Well you apply to stay in Japan for 1 year to teach English at a high school, jr. high school, or elementary school. There is also the option of re-contracting if you like. It's so wonderful! I would have totally stayed on for another year, if I wasn't shipping my butt off to Canada. As for Queen's University, it's located in Kingston and I'll be entering the graduate program for my master's in Sept. It'll be a bit different from what I'm normally used to in regards to religion, b/c we are studying it from perspectives other than those of a believer. It'll be challenging for me, b/c I take religion seriously and I think that when done right, it can solve all of the world's problems. However, I like being around those who don't necessarily take spirituality and the question of it's existence for granted. Questioning faith and challenging our traditions and values makes us stronger, and so I've got a feeling that being in such an enviroment will probably strengthen my faith and force me to rely more on my intellect to make connections between this life and spirituality, rather than simply following blindly...and thus, lazily.

As for the faculty, I haven't gotten a chance to meet all of them yet, but from what I've read from their online profiles, I'm crazy excite to get to class. Some of the topics they are specializing in are:

Christianity and Modernity
Women's Roles in Religion
Enviromental Issues and Religion
Religion and Violence
and many others... So yeah, that's that.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome....Awwww man....I'm so excited!
