*starts to tear* HINDUISM DOES NOT WORSHIP IDOLS! WE WORSHIP ASPECTS OF GOD THROUGH STATUES! we worship ideals, not idols.

Superb wordplay, Gerani! No orthodox Christians would say that they worship their icons; no Christian (I think) would say that they worship the Cross etc. Those symbols help the belivers to concentrate, and are not worshiped as deities.

yes, exactly. thank you. i need to dispel the myth that hindus sarcrifice thier children and dance before a bloody idol. its just stupid. sure, we do pujas and ritual bathing for the idol, but we love God, and we celebrate Him as if he was the statue. its much easier to worship, and much more loving than praying to an imagined figure in a mind.

You got it right on the first try. :p Anyways, what did you say? You worship aspects of God through them? Let me see......you have no idea how God looks like, so you can't worship him through an idol. Worshipping to a piece of wood is simpler than just bowing and praying to God? That's interesting. Oh, you worship ideals? I thought you were supposed to worship God, not ideals. My mistake.

Well, anders, the Hadith do say that you worship priests. Somewhere in Sahih-Bukhari, someone told the Prophet (saas) that they don't, but he said they do. They made some illegal things legal, and some legal things illegal. Well, the Christians listened to them, and in a sense, were worshipping them. Do you know pork is illegal to eat? It says so right in the Bible. Look it up. It's somewhere in Deuro........I can never spell it. Well, someone has it as their nickname, so I think you know what I mean.

Sorry if I seem mean, but this arm is really driving me crazy.

Deuteronomy is the book, if that is where it is.

Also, no it is not illegal for a Christian to eat pork, and it is not because some priest or priests decided they liked it.

Matthew 15:11 - Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
May I recieve your(general you) opinion on what the "best" translation of the Qur'an is, and the most literal translation is please?

i awknolegde the fact that muslims forbid any statues or idols of God or prophets. and i respect that.

we dont worship idols. they are holy representations of the many aspects of God. remember the hindu God is different from the other judeo christian or islmic form of God.

Brahman (God) concept is basically made up of two. one is that Brahman (God) is everwhere. This God can not really be described. Its just as it is. A divine force in nature. something to that effect. Second form of the concept is the actual worshippable God. This God has several aspects, represented by different names. such as Brahma would represent creation, vishnu would represent life and siva would represent destruction, the cycle of all life in God. there are infinate aspects of God and are represented as such. Hindus awknowledge that it is hard to pray to God when you have nothing to focus on. This type of worship is used in temples and in small rooms at home where they have one or several pictures or statues of the deity (represeting aspects/ideals of God). There are also several other types of worship which do not images at all.

got it? now quite being so damn ignorant and open your eyes and be respectful!!!

cya.

This is a common idea in some pagan religions, the idea of worshipping God through statues. Statues have no power , no reason, not anything to do for anyone. They name these statues and say they are different Gods, this is only a saying from their own lips. Gerani says that the statues represent different aspects of God. Well, what is the use of worshipping different aspects of God, rather it is more sensible and complete to worship God fully and to recognize His attributes, but no need to make them into wood and stone. I believe God is one, and you do not need intermediaries to worship Him, in Islam we can do it directly. Thank you.

It was stated that a Muslim who blows himself up for the sake of " of a cause, which is noble from the Islamic point of view. That is, justice, truth, freedom etc. The man who fights to save his rightfully earned property from a robber is fighting for justice, for truth.
I wonder why people cannot understand the nobility and the height of sacrifice achieved by a young teenager who is on the threshold of life, but decides to throw away life like a worthless trifle. This is especially surprising when so much is heard about the way the Only Son of God who courted death for the sake of saving the world!"

If the Muslim blows himself up ALONE, you have made your case that he is a martyr for his cause. But when he deliberately blows himself up in order to murder many others...then this person is a murderer, not just a martyr. And Jesus died under the insults and persecutions of others. He did not take anyone's life with Him.

Really? Well, he was only a Prophet and a Messenger, you know. And he didn't want to kill himself, that's why Allah saved him. I heard Paul made up a lot of stuff, like the Trinity. So, you believe in Paulism, I think, because you believe in the things Paul made up.

If he blows himself up alone, he is commiting suicide, which is against Islam.
But if he kills soldiers who would have killed him anyways without remorse, well, he is a martyr.
If he kills innocent people, however, he is not a martyr.

Jesus (sa) didn't die. And he is returning to Earth very soon.

If you continue reading after this statement in the book of Matthew, Jesus defines what he said. He says that eating without washing your hands is what he is referring to for not defiling a man. He is not saying it is ok to eat anything you want. If that were the case I could eat my dead grandpa's arm. One of the laws was not to eat swine, Jesus said the Law will not change until the heavens and earth pass away. Paul said it is ok to eat anything you want after he was caught eating meat sacrificed to pagan idols.

This is somewhat irrelevant to where the other posts are going, but I was curious about the title of this thread: "Ask Moslems." I had heard that "Moslem" was derogatory because it is close, in Arabic, to a word meaning "oppressor." (I *think* that's the word it sounds like). Are people being too politically correct in making the Muslim/Moslem distinction? Are there terms people use to describe Islam that are unknowingly offensive?

Jesus actually says, while speaking to the multitude and his disciples, in Matthew 23: 9 "Call no man on earth your father, for One is your Father which is in heaven." It seems Jesus taught we are all sons of God.

Learner--you have a confused interpretation of Islamic teachings. It is understandable if you are from the USA and learn from what they show on TV. From my understanding, Islam teaches that one can be thought of as a martyr if one is a suicide bomber, assuming one takes out military personnell that are in combat with or are oppressing someone. The minute one kills innocent people, one is no longer a martyr.

I assume it is just a different way to spell Muslim. I don't understand it, but I see it everywhere. Similar is Quran and Koran. With just a basic understanding of Arabic, we can see the first letter is qaf, not kaf. It seems minor, but it is simple to correct as well. Many people can't even spell english words properly, I guess it is too much to ask for them to spell words from another language correctly.
But I could be wrong and it might be meant as a derogatory word in this case or maybe a typo. Generally I attribute it to ignorance/laziness.
