In Donald Trump's new ad campaign they use the so-called "Center for Immigration Studies" as a source or their information. Very professional sounding name, but this is an organisation founded by eugenics supporter, John Tanton. This is a disgusting racist organisation. Is it any wonder that minorities are not supporting Trump?

Yes, I caught that and it's very much true. Hey, what should we expect from a candidate who refused to denounce David Duke and other white supremacy groups, plus this isn't the first time he's used material from their sites.

If anything, this election has made me realize it's not the American government that makes me want to leave and renounce my citizenship, it's the legions of buffoons that keep putting the "same ol' same ol'" in office and when they do try and change things they want a moronic hatemonger to run the show.
At least I did get to vote for Bernie at least once.

This is the fatal flaw of democracy, isn't it? The system is only as good as the people who make it up. Let's not forget that the vote of the buffoon, whoever that might be for you, is just as valuable as the vote of the genius.

Why do so many people act as if racism is some fundamental aspect of eugenics?

Because it is.
Eugenics is necessarily slanted towards the values of the majority population of any society. Minorities then are by default singled out and deemed more "unfit", so they have to deal with the negative effects of the ideology. That is exactly what it is, and why it's a social concept that was widely abandoned 70 years ago.

It is "necessarily slanted" towards those who are subjectively perceived to possess the most desirable characteristics. Some might consider a particular skin color or race to be among those "most desirable" characteristics, yes, but other times it might be somethings else, like eye color, athletic prowess, or beauty.

Didn't Planned Parenthood start out with racism and eugenics as motives...aimed towards black communities? I remember seeing some nasty quotes attributed to the founder/s.

Exactly.

And tell me which members of society determine what is most desirable... You admit that it's entirely subjective, which makes it a nonsense ideology scientifically. So what actual support for it do you have?

It's a systemic form of racism, implemented entirely on the make-believe notion that one type of people are better than another, which then subjects anyone not of the majority population to the whims of the "fit".

As a natural mechanism for producing healthier populations, of course it makes sense. But the guide for natural selection is not based on socio-economic conditions, or political and personal gain, which is the case with Eugenics.

If a tribe decides to cull off everyone in their village who has an affinity for a particular terrible disease so that their future generations will be stronger and healthier, they are practicing eugenics. If they culled off everyone who was of small stature or was physically inadequate compared to the rest of the population, the tribe would be practicing eugenics.

If a country culled off everyone with certain genetically inherited diseases and deformities, and everyone with HIV and AIDS, etc... it would be a eugenic decision and future generations would reap the benefits.

Eugenics needn't have anything to do with racism.

I wouldn't say it's necessarily racist, as in America even white people with certain "undesirable traits" (often mental illness or physical deformity) were forcibly sterilized. It most certainly can be a weapon of a racist regime, but it can be used as a weapon against any group, regardless of race, by a regime that hates them enough.

Somewhat, but let's see some examples and at what time in history. PP wasn't called Planned Parenthood back then.

I wouldn't say the science behind it is racist. It's just a social ideology of humans wanting to breed the best genes. What is racist are the people who talk about brain size, physical traits, IQ, intelligence, etc.

Some people will say, that's just 'the truth.' But only a person with racism in their heart would even mention it. Non-racists wouldn't even consider talking about it. A lot of people in America act racist and don't even realize it.

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Eugenics certainly is a fascinating subject; there needn't be anything racist about it all.
There isn't. Like hearing about a person coming from good stock. Good genes...etc.

Like just about anything though, people can twist it to sound like an impending fourth Reich is in the making with a resurrected Hitler leading the bunch.

How do you feel about people breeding dogs, cats, horses, cattle, etc., for specific traits?
