I live for shared experiences with friends and family but I voted 'no must have' because others having other goals, creation, devotion to a craft or faith or cause are all acceptable answers by my limited judgement, and probably many more besides.

I think all of them.
but it's depend the importance .

for me it's :
1- religion
2-please my family (parents, willing wife and kids inshallah)
3-my self

Family is most important, but not everyone has family so I picked "there is no must have".

People is the simple answer to live for. You need Doctors, Farmers, Businessmen, Policemen, Dreaded Politicians, and etc. if you live for these people your life will be much easier.

Family and Friends are really only necessary to your perceived happiness. If you get sick can your family and friends cure you, Do they provide your food, your money, or you security from others. Unless you live off the Grid, people are the most important. If you live off the grid including medical drugs and surgery creating everything yourself then it could be family and friends.

I chose "Friends" and "Reputation/Fame" because it is the closest to "acceptance and recognition".

I almost checked "Family" as well, but I suppose it is not strictly necessary, just dearly craved.

Individual results will vary. I could answer for what I think I need, but I'd expect others to have completely different sets of answers, including ones that are not on the list...

I hate the "exclusion" or everyone's opinions vary. I gear more towards live for oneself because that's what each of those categories lean towards. Some of us define living for ourselves through an other (family, friends, and/or god(s), object(s) of worship). Others look to themselves. If my occupation mirrored my religious goals, values, etc then I would pick that since I value work. It would incorporate everything: what I do for others, for myself, the things I value, and what mirrors what I do as a bodhisattva. It's a combination but ultimately, the foundation is living for oneself.

Well, the list of must-have's for a human animal, aside from a generally habitable environment, are pretty simple:
  1. Air (human can survive without this for a few minutes)
  2. Water (humans can survive without this for a few days)
  3. Food (humans can survive without this for a few weeks)
Every human animal needs those things to stay alive. If you are not minding those, you die. Everything else is extra.

There is nothing to live for. We are meatbags who are constantly struggling, suffering, starving, in pain, dying, for absolutely no purpose whatsoever.
