Hu chaale Aup-dada ?

It is a word coined by Fire-side Hindu and describes a person who goes by his tradition and has not read many scriptures except perhaps Ramayana or Srimad Bhagawat Purana (in translation, because he would not know Sanskrit). He is least worried about technicalities of his beliefs. I like the word and use it frequently. My study of scriptures (or knowledge of Sanskrit too) is limited (and I absolutely do not know any Western philosophy, no Kant, no Descartes, no Thomas Equinas). But I have been through Qur'an and Bible. I consider myself to be a village Hindu.

Are you sure it was not that playfull young Gujarati , ...Poeticus Ji , .........Kemnu chu la tu ? :p

I can't remember FS coining it. Maybe. Maybe not. Do we trust Aup's memory.
actually I picked it up from ShivaFan ji. =)
Don't trust the memory of an old person like Aup. (perhaps showing early symptoms of Alzheimer). But who started the term is now settled, It was ShivaFan. SF may kindly confirm.

Miss him and miss all people who have stopped visiting the forum, but he was not the one. I was confused between Fire-Side and Shiva-Fan.

Yes, Vinayakaji, I've also heard the term "Village Hindu" for years and it has generally been used to describe a simple, not highly educated nor sophisticated follower of traditional Hindu beliefs as practiced and taught by his local, usually rural village priests. Thus, the "Village Hindu" in Village "A" might have different rituals and beliefs, etc., than the Village Hindu in Village "B" or even "C," yet all of them are Hindus.

I'm looking forward to becoming senile. Just think of all the new people I'll get to meet every day! :)

Vanakkam,

I would say those who do not follow sampraday and/or includes magical/esoteric aspects and worship/summoning of Adivasi gods/goddesses

Aum Namah Shivaya
Last month we had religious rituals at our village house, there we invoked various deities like Narsingh, Bhairav, Kali, Naag and our ancestors , it was so much amazing and emotional to talk to someone whom you lost some 16 years ago.

You really did?? But I suppose that is a wrong question to ask. If you did, you did. :D
Like if you prayed to a God or Goddess, the God or Goddess exists.
Any photos?

I didn't take a pic or record as my family was in that room and my father is a strict person, although If you wish I can take you with me next time, check for yourself. This was the first time when I had 5 back to back visions of Maha kali in her fierce form because some outsider did something disturbing to kali Alter and next day when she was invoked she clearly mentioned about the visions I had. There I also met my grandfather who died in 2001, he screamed my name as soon as he appeared because I was closest to him and then he met others one by one for about 20min.
We won't have any such ritual for next 2 years but I can take you to a festival where entire village invokes their deities altogether.

What I found that the older person on the chair is Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji and the younger one is Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Sri Vidhushekhara Bharati.
I bow to both.
