Read it and weep - 2016 Republican platform.

Hmm. I wonder how much of that platform Trump will align himself with? I'm guessing he'll forge his own bumpy road.

He is certainly not bound to the Republican platform but does have considerable influence as to what is included. Likewise, a given candidate can greatly exceed a given platform policy while merely giving lip service to other aspects. Mood and expedience must come into play.

Note the section on page 3, "Not Authorized By Any Candidate Or Candidate’s Committee".

Pretty much how I'm viewing the scenario currently so we're on the same page there. With Trump's XXXL ego though, he's going to go off-road and get very dirty. It may be both comical and enraging at the same time. We'll see. :D

Though quite far from thrilled, I'm not so sure Trump will be a bad president... certainly not worse than Hillary.

I still would have much preferred to see Trump vs. Sanders. At least the Bern is authentic.

But this is not just Trump. He likes to think everything is about him, but it is not. This is also about every Republican Senator, Congressman, or Dog Catcher. Not just now but for the next four years at least.

Haven't read through the entire document, but found much to like. Thanks for sharing link to it.

Oh, God. I can't let myself think that far ahead and envision him as president.

I feel as though he'd be a disaster with international relations for starters and the poor and elderly would suffer greatly under a Trump presidency. That's fuel for another thread.

Who would you have endorsed (hypothetically) if that was the case?

Their preamble clearly needs a side note that reads, in regards to "equality" and "rights of the people": *not applicable to all people. They also forgot to mention that the military was very "short changed" under Bush Jr.
As someone whose rights have been attacked by Republicans, in this state and other Republican-lead states, **** their ideas of freedom and equality! They don't want equal rights for LBGT, they don't want a better path to citizenship or immigration reform, they don't want a healthcare system that works, and many do not care that our children learn religious mythos as science fact. And just how lovely that the tout the Constitution, but not that the Founding Fathers had no intentions of it being a static and concrete document that allows the dead to govern the living.
It leaves me thinking of a George Carlin quote: It's called the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe in it.

My guess is that you'd still pick the more conservative candidate. :)
Take a deep breath. At one point, I was very much pleased with Ted Cruz. Then I was less than impressed on how he handled Trump. For awhile, I thought he just might take the high road and remain above the squabbling... but sadly, he succumbed and I've never taken him seriously since.

Now, if I was an American, I would hold my nose and vote for Trump, much like I did the first time I voted for he former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Who knows, Trump might have a similar effect as Reagan did and scare the living crap out of everyone thereby ushering in a period of relative calm because they don't dare second guess him.
