Vinayaka said:Have you been to the Hindu temple in Anchorage, or do you even live close, given the vastness of the state?
Oh wow, now I'm going to have to buy myself a Sarasvati statue.
I have always been attracted to her. I have no idea why. Anyone have ideas?
@RebornHindu ... Just for information here, the mystical traditions believe that either stone or metal works better in the conduit aspect of murthis. That is why in some temples especially, you won't find plastic, resin, or wood ones. Individuals within the Hindu spectrum vary on this idea. Those leaning to symbolism versus the conduit idea will have any types, or pictures
She just calls to some of us, for some reason. I always say she called to me because she knew I wasn't real bright and needed as much wisdom as she could force on me.
You might find this thread interesting, too.
Oh, how I hope to have one of those stone murtis one day!
Generally, Maturea (Mathura) was not a part of the kingdom of Oude (Awadh), but who knows. Perhaps yes at some point in history (When Abraham journeyed to Egypt). And Ishaak could be from the 'Ikshavaku' clan (that of Lord Rama). Check with Hare-Krishnas, they have conducted research on this... Maturea of the kingdom of Oude ..
Beautiful. One more day-light photo please showing water. Do bears visit your place? Aurora, some times? Do you shoot the mosquitoes with single-barrel gun or double-barrel gun?I love it here. It is true island living.
The view from our bedroom window.
Nope, never been there.
The state is indeed huge. I live over a thousand miles from Anchorage. I live on an island in Southeast Alaska.

Hebrew has many links with indian language tamil/malayala. Yes Abraham is most likely a twisted version of Brahma whose wife is Saraswathi (Sara) ...Yes i am surprised that you made the connection, yes Isha mahal /Ismael (muslim names) are all relating to Siva as Isha generally means Siva........Ancient India which was called Bharatha varsha was very rich until the muslims who looted killed, converted people for 800 years and then british came and completed the damage with huge loots and with their introduction of educational system. Current Indians are not aware of their own rich historyOh wow, now I'm going to have to buy myself a Sarasvati statue.

Interestingly an ancient historian said the Hebrew originally came from India, and settled first in Egypt, and then on to their known lands. This makes the Hebrew out of Egypt story more interesting.
"The tribe of Ioud or the Brahmin Abraham, left the Maturea of the kingdom of Oude in India and, settling in Goshen, or the house of the Sun or Heliopolis in Egypt, gave it the name of the place which they had left in India, Maturea." (Anacalypsis; Vol. I, p. 405.)
According to the Bible God told Abraham to leave his country and kindred and go to a land that he would show him, and promised to make of him a great nation. (Genesis 12)
And to add to this, we have Sarasvati and Brahma. And where have we heard of a Hebrew couple with similar names?
Sarai and Abrahm. (Remember these are both transliterations and translations.)
The Bible also says Abraham is from "Ur of the Chaldeans." Did they corrupt Kaul-Devan - the title of an ancient Hindu Brahmanical priestly caste?
The children Isaac and Ishmael names seem to be derived from Sanskrit too: (Hebrew) Ishaak = (Sanskrit) Ishakhu = "Friend of Shiva." (Hebrew) Ishmael = (Sanskrit) Ish-Mahal = "Great Shiva."
The bible also states that Ishmael, son of Hagar, and his descendants lived in India. "...Ishmael breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his kin... They dwelt from Havilah (India), by Shur, which is close to Egypt, all the way to Asshur." (Genesis 25:17-18.)
"The most ancient tradition, going back to Josephus and followed by most of the Church Fathers, makes Havilah equivalent to India,..." http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/articles/5428-eden-garden-of
Apparently The Jewish Targum also mentions them as dwelling in India.
Anyway - I found this interesting and though you might as well.

So lonely, so remote, so peaceful.Hello. I don't know how I missed this one.
Yes we see the Northern Lights. Not as bright as up north, but we do get to enjoy them. We have to be really cautious around the mosquitos as they might pack us off.
This is the view from the other side of the house - through winter ice hanging off the roof.
We had a bear pass through last week. He was eating salmonberries. Here are two deer in the lower yard. The deer come down every year, and lay around in the yard with their new babies.
A view down the beach.
