Calling on Kālīmā for some help

As you probably know I am primarily a devotee of Lord Krishna. I say "primarily" because I do pray to the other gods and goddesses.

Lately I've noticed and been bothered by some aspects of myself I don't like: arrogance, anger, ego, dark thoughts, non-compassion, intolerant of other people, generally adharmic in thoughts and speech. It comes from a lot of stress I have. It's a reason but not an excuse.

I ask Lord Krishna to help me have fun and enjoy life, but I am blocking that with the negative feelings I have. I was in tears, having a bit of a meltdown talking to him the other day.

I am wondering if it's time to seek out Kālīmā's help to purge this. I know that her energies are strong, and I may get worse (if that's even possible ) before I get better. I wonder if Lord Krishna might be nudging me. He did tell Arjuna to pray to Mā Durgā for strength and courage.

I talked to Mā this morning, just in a conversational prayer, but I'm thinking of using one of her mantras. What would be the best to use? Is oṃ śrī mahākālīkayaī namaḥ too strong? How about oṃ krīm kālīkayaī namaḥ? Her gayatri mantra, or another, or not at all? If so, what repetition scheme? If I do nāma japa I can see getting a mālā of small skulls. :)

Vinidra

Jai Mata Di!
Kali Maa's always been kind to me. I think it's something along the lines of God looking out for children, drunks, and fools. :p

I honestly don't know a whole lot about mantras and what should and shouldn't be chanted and whatnot, so take this with a grain of salt. But I've heard that her "krim" bija is a lot more...powerful?...intense?...something than her "klim" one. Whether there's any truth to that or not, I have no idea.

I sometimes see "Om Shri Kalikayai namaha" offered up as one of the mantras that anyone can supposedly chant. Beyond that, I'm not sure. But good luck with deciding exactly what you're going to do! :)

Kali Maa is enough (mantra wise).

For the objective you seek, imagine Kali Maa coming to visit you in the form of a young girl in tattered cloths. But She has the voice of an adult. Do not be afraid.

I know you asked for Kali Maa specifically , but for what it's worth I find this version of the Sri Suktam to one of the most psychologically and physically soothing prayers to listen to. I've even put it on a loop overnight to help me sleep. https://youtu.be/0Vd6xbQDTYs

There should have been a space between Kālī and mā. Otherwise is is uncomfortably close to Islamic Kalima. :)
You are doing right. You do not disrespect other deities. Chant 'Om Namo Vasudevaya' more frequently - my suggestion.

With all due respect, if you want to deal with these issues, you should go to a therapist or seek counseling.

If Kali and Ganesha could resolve real world problems, then India would be a very different place than what it actually is. But it is not. Indians have been turning to these Gods (and Goddesses) for thousands of years now and it has not produced any tangible benefit. They are the same as people from any other part of the world.

Like it or not, we are on our own and we have to deal with our problems on our own. In blunt terms,
- Yajnas will neither produce rain nor babies
- Laksmi will not produce showers of Gold coins on chanting certain mantras
- Ganesha/Vinayak will not turn a movie into a box office hit - if the actors walk to the famed Siddhi Vinayak temple (Mumbai) from their homes on the morning of the release to pray for blessings
- Tirupathi Venkatesh will not magically improve exam scores because the person visited the temple just before the exam for blessings
- Krishna will not magically come forth to protect women who are molested in Delhi

Again, no offense to anyone, but if we continue to believe in this kind of magic - in spite of evidence to the contrary - then we are wasting our time and energy and more importantly, insulting our own intellect.

Good point. :D

I got that suggestion from someone else also, and I now think it's the right way to go.

I have another version of that in my playlist and hear it all the time! :)

On what basis you are making this statement? I do agree that we are passing through a difficult 'democratic' period (Mulayam in UP, Laloo in Bihar, etc.). But we will overcome these.

Vanakkam !

It is generally not advised to recite or do jaap with mantras having beej
At least not without proper initiation by someone skilled.
Pronunciation, breathing and all those things are very important in mantra and working with very powerful mantras (like the ones having beej) without knowing the correct how to or without being sure to be able to handle its energy is generally not advised.
There is a risk to yield unexpected or too brutal results, especially with a deity like Sri Kali maa...
Her regular or gayatri mantra can do, or else, turn to Sri Krisna for answers, if He is your Ista Dev, there is no reason for Him not to help !
Wish you good luck o/

Understood. Pretty much what I thought. I see things like "you can use a beej mantra not being initiated and the worst that will happen is it won't work". Huh? Then why bother? o_O

I just came by.
Wish you come out of your stress!
