Non-Muslim. Feeling guilty about saying the Prophet's name.

When Muslims follow up by saying, "peace be upon him". The Prophet is a concept of Islam, and thus, to speak of him and not follow up is to use the Islamic context, and not pay him the respect he is due in that context.

I mean, I wouldn't put a Quran on the floor, so not paying respect to him, real in my mind or not, is disrespectful... Does that make sense?

Following up on his name with "peace be upon him" when I am not Muslim, though, may be cultural appropriation, or look silly.

Am I worrying for nothing?

It is not wrong to do either as a non-Muslim.

A Muslim benefits from saying it, while a non-Muslim is not required to do so, I hope the following verse and hadith are helpful:

Indeed, Allah confers blessing upon the Prophet, and His angels [ask Him to do so]. O you who have believed, ask [ Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [ Allah to grant him] peace. Chapter 33 verse 56.

Anas bin Malik said:
"The Messen
ger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Whoever sends salah upon me once, Allah (SWT) will send salah upon him tenfold, and will erase ten sins from him, and will raise him ten degrees in status."

`Ali bin Abi Talib narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“The stingy person is the one before whom I am mentioned, and he does not send Salat upon me.

These hadith apply to Muslims, a non-Muslim is not subject to Islamic teachings/laws. So there is no harm for you in not doing it but you may benefit due to doing it.

Let's see... you're wondering if it is okay for you to not follow his name with "peace be upon him" as a non-Muslim, and that it would be disrespectful?

I believe this is nothing to worry about. I don't see a problem in not saying it. If anyone speaks to you about it when you say his name, just tell them you're not Muslim. They should respect that too and back off. If you do it tho, it's is also perfectly fine.

By the way, I thank you for considering that. You seem like a nice considerate person and the world needs people like that :)

I would like to, but maybe I will look silly.

But thank you for the responses.

Just don't feel guilty if you don't. It is not something you have to do like the brothers answered.

And Thank you for your post and concern :)
