Christians: Are You Biblical?

Neo Deist

Th.D. & D.Div. h.c.
Do you, as a Christian, live your life according to the Bible? Before you answer "yes", consider this:

In Matthew 5:17-19, Jesus very explicitly says NOT to annul any of the OT laws. Those laws are to be followed. When he says Laws and Prophets, he is talking about the Torah (Genesis through Deuteronomy) as well as the books/scrolls of the Major and Minor prophets. Knowing that, reconsider the title question. Then answer these questions truthfully:

1. Do you eat pork in any form? Bacon, sausage, ham, pork chops?
2. Do you play football or toss a leather football around in your backyard?

If so, you are in violation of Leviticus chapter 11.

3. Women, how soon after giving birth do you go to church? If you had a boy, you are supposed to wait 33 days. If it is a girl, you are supposed to wait 66 days.

If you go to church before then, you are in violation of Leviticus chapter 12.

4. Do you lie at all, even a simple, little white lie? Do you tell your kids about Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, etc.?

If so, you are in violation of Leviticus 19:11.

5. Do you wear garments made of different material? For example, do you have cotton shorts but wear silk boxers/panties? What about cotton boxers/panties but silk pajamas?

If so, you are in violation of Leviticus 19:19.

6. Men, do you sleep with your female slaves? What about the female slaves of another man?

If so, you are in violation of Leviticus 19:20-22.

7. Do you have any tattoos?

If so, guess what? You are in violation of Leviticus 19:28.

8. Have you ever been so mad that you cussed/cursed at your mother or father?

If so, you are to be put to death according to Leviticus 20:9.

9. Have you ever had sex with a woman that was menstruating, or did you as a woman have sex while on your period?

If so, you are in violation of Leviticus 20:18, and you both are to be banished from your people.

10. Have you ever gone to church and approached the altar/pulpit while having any of these: blindness, deafness, broken hand or foot, facial disfigurement, visual defect, dwarfism, eczema, scabs of any kind, or a crushed testicle?

If so, you are an abomination and in violation according to Leviticus 21:16-23.

So, are you TRULY Biblical? Or do you pick and choose?

This is why I read through new threads that don't really apply to me. For gems like these.

Yes the Op is completely right, its just the so called Christians that don't want to admit its there, so they make up all sorts of stories to wriggle their way out of it.

Who knows, you can quote anything you want from the so called gospels, it still means nothing.
Well ok, sounded like you had opinions on what the verses says Christians should do. He did a way with the law in chapter 22 by saying laws all summed up on loving your neighbor.

The Law Stands
“For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” — Matthew 5:18-19“

It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid.” (Luke 16:17)

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.” (Matthew 5:17)“

Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law” (John7:19)

Not to abolish bit fulfill means it is not a contradiction with chapter 22 where he sums the LaW into two commands.

So how does John say anything different, probably cause they are not cooking their neighbors enough bacon.

These are some good questions when taken in the right perspective rather than face value.

It seems to me that where the line is drawn between some Christians (not all) with the law and with following Jesus is time period and association with what the action is and how it relates to their faith.

For example, with the first part I'd assume a Christian does not follow the tattoo rule not necessarily because it doesn't apply but more some feel it's "out dated." What if we got away from the popularity of "being in the new" and go back to how things where.

The issue I see with this is some Christians like to keep what Jesus says and then stop short when practices he did do not line up with what we do today. So it becomes the Law even though Jesus didn't see it as such.

Another part is association between action and belief.

For example, a Christian can obviously see how charity and helping people affects their spirituality because they can physically, mentally, and internally see the good they did and the help it provided the other. It makes sense and it's a literal association.

Meanwhile, it is the exact same experience when a Catholic lights a candle or even prays to the Eucharist. However, because to a non-Catholic there is no physical association other than concept that "the light of the world-jesus" and "communion-jesus body/church" becomes blurred and all of the sudden these acts are just symbols when Jesus never considered it as such.

I mean, if we went back in the past and I sat back and watch a Christian tell Jesus, "naw, you didn't mean that the bread and wine was actually your body and blood did you?" Questioning Jesus?

If there is no literal association (like some people want to experience god with their fives senses), it is the law.

So, that is why all of those things are really not practiced in protestant Christiantity. It's outdated, not our culture, for the Jews, for the Pharaciese, practiced pagans, and the list goes on.

I don't know if anyone takes the time out to understand the nature of these practices and what's behind it that is more than symbolism. Until then, the law is always the law and everything Jesus practiced is obsolete by his passion. Though, I don't think the apostles thought that. I'm not sure. Have to think about it.

Well of course the highest of spirit that we could be is to live the law of love, but many humans just don't, they are still under all the laws, they are still apes that are also under the stone age Commandments written on stone.

but many humans just don't,
You can say that again, but not from lack of trying to explain it to them, even his own apostles had it wrong and had to be shown with actual examples of how to act. Jesus didn't just preach it he lived it, exemplified love and tolerance.

People pick and choose. Some of those same people that feel it is outdated, will turn around and preach that the Bible is God's word, 100% inerrant, and is the final authority. Hypocrisy at its finest.

Even from an outsider religion, they know better. There may be hypocrisy in the world but when it comes to the bible it comes from people not actually following what Jesus said.
