On May 27, 2016, Dr. Elham Manea, a Yemeni liberal activist residing in Switzerland, reported on her Twitter and Facebook accounts that, at the House of Religions in Bern, a woman had led a mixed congregation of men and women in Friday prayers. The prayer was led by Halima Gosai Hussain, who is the chair in Britain of a project called the Inclusive Mosque Initiative (IMI). After the prayers, Elham Manea herself delivered the Friday sermon. The call to prayer was also performed by a woman. In addition, the service included musical interludes, another feature that is not a part of mainstream Islam.

"We prayed to Allah the Almighty and kneeled before Him… That is all we did."

What do you think of this woman that has organized Islamic prayers in Switzerland? Should she be commended or condemned?

Condemn sister for praying to Allah? Never.
Music is out of the question during the prayer in my opinion because it's not a concert & Friday sermon should only be done by imam (because of his knowledge).
Mixed congregation in prayer is not something I would mind because I can concentrate on my prayers easily, but why is there a need to change things?
Allah knows what her intentions are. :D

(Hope @Sakeenah will comment on this, as well as @Godobeyer & @Smart_Guy )

Her mosque, her land, her country, she can practice whatever religion/belief she want. It's up to her if she doesn't want to follow the correct teachings of Islam.

She's a liberal activist so I'm not surprised she's trying to make some changes to Islamic teachings. :D

Some might be very harsh with their words condemning this while others might just point to the obvious that they've just wasted their time thinking they have done a good deed when really they haven't.

I believe she's in the wrong, but it's between her and God. I have a strange feeling about her intentions, but that's for God to decide. If anyone keeps changing things in religion, it wouldn't be that religion at some point.

Nope, that's not all she did. The article says other things.

Peace be on you.
She should be kindly advised her actions are not in line of practices of Holy Prophet of Islam (peace and blessings of Allah be on him).

Out of respect for their chastity and honour, women are not advised to stand for Prayer in front of men. For this reason, the rows of women are always behind the men's rows. This gives the women complete freedom to offer their Prayers in the back rows without being embarrassed by the presence of men. It is preferable however, to have a separate enclosure for women. It also follows from the above that a woman cannot lead a congregation of men, but can lead a congregation of women. This means that she can lead a congregation consisting of children of either sex among the worshippers, but not adult men.

It's between her and God , He is the one who will judge us individually.

Islamically women are allowed to lead women in prayer but not men. That's a pretty clear ruling. As a woman I don't have an issue with it..this is from the teachings of the prophet muhammad phub so this is what we follow.

Salaam,

Not really.

Because i saw you started talking about what is correct, to who, etc. When a Muslim says correct teachings of Islam, obviously he/she must be referring to islamic teachings itself (Quran, Sunnah, etc).

So you condemn everything she did except for praying to Allah?

I wasn't clear on your statement. Who has wasted their time?

I notice that in most of religions. rare to find a female a leader of religion.

In Islam the woman not suppose to be becomes Imam for men or mixed (male and female), but she could become Imam for women only.

Salaam,

So, you mean correct according to your interpretations of the Holy Qur'aan and Sunnah of Rasulullaah (saws)?
