OK that's all the Shiva bhajans I know off the top of my head! Not much good to you without being able to hear them, but the sentiment will hopefully suffice.

Mother is Shiva, anyway, so bhajans to the Divine Mother are equally praising of Lord Shiva.

Om Namah Shivaya! Jaya Shiva Shankara!

First two episodes of a series about Shiva and Sati/Parvati

I watched it and have been planning on buying a version of the entire series with english subtitles when I get some spare money.

Maybe some here will find this worthwhile for watching.

Sada Shiva, Sada Shiva.
Sada Shiva Shambo Sada Shiva.

Jai Maa Kali! Kali, mother Shakti and Shiva are one! All is shiva!

Praise Shiva!

Skanda Vale has historically had an association with Sathya Sai Baba, so I might well have many bhajans in common with the Sathya Sai movement!

To know about Sati and Shiva, kindly read information on Daksha (literal meaning: efficient), son of Lord Brahma and the first emperor of humanity at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daksha. Daksha had many daughters through his wives Prasuti and Panchajani. Most names of his daughters are allegorical. The 27 married to Moon are the names of the 27 asterisms. The 13 married to Dharma are the names of good emotions. Please note all this is mythology. Sati was perhaps the youngest of the daughters. She somehow became enamored of Lord Shiva and married him without Daksha's assent.

In the first episode of the Indian serial, this story is depicted. The angry portly person is not a priest but Daksha who wants to install a Sheshashayi Vishnu idol. But the idol will not move beyond a certain point. Since Vishnu does not enter a place where Shiva is not revered. When Sati places a lingam at the place indicated by Vishnu's finger, then only the idol is finally moved to its proper place.

But Daksha hates Shiva (Wiki - Daksha disliked Shiva intensely, calling him a dirty, roaming ascetic and reviling the great yogi's cohort of goblins and ghouls). Sati came to know of Shiva through Sage Narada and became enamored of him. Daksha told her that since she interested in Shiva, she must go to Shiva, she has no place in his household. Daksha even gives her a dowry of a Bel leaf (Aegle marmelos) saying that this is what all she is going to get from him. Since then, no worship of Shiva idol or linga is complete without the offering of a bel leaf (Bilvapatra). That is what Shiva loves the most and the leaf finds place at the top of a lingam. Incidently, a sherbet prepared from Bel fruit is very tasty and is supposed to be very beneficial in summers.

So, when Sati is sent off from her father's home, Shiva comes to receive her respectfully. Sati is very happy with with her loving, doting husband, till the time that she hears that a great 'yajna' is going to take place in her fathers home.
For the rest, wait for the next post ...

We adore and worship the fragrant nourisher, three eyed seer of three states, may he, similar as a cucumber ripens and is released from its stalk, free me from bondage of death and grant immortality.

Pray, may my adoration be constant.

How we define people by their traits, by their dresses, by the fragrances they wear, not knowing that life, intelligence, and fragrance that permeate all forms of the three states of existence belongs to Tryambakam Shiva, who saw the birth Hiranygarbha and all these worlds.

By chanting Aum Namah Shivaya mindfully we may partake of the sweet fragrance and life bestowing peace that is Shiva.

Thanks, JBN. You see, Ganesha dominates in many regions, but that is no reason why Murugan should be forgotten. :D

no reason why Murugan should be forgotten.

If not for the temple being dominated by south Indian style, I probably would not have known much about Murugan aka Subramanya (as he's known at the temple) aka Kartikeya,. Kartikeya is the name I knew him by previously, but only the name and as "god of war". I've become drawn to him and even have a small brass murti on my altar.

This is one of my favorite devotionals, from the Sulamangalam Sisters. I usually play it in the morning because it gets me energized. Yes, I even dance a little bit to it (almost threw my back out :D).

And then there is this picture, Shiva's three sons (yes, is printed and framed at home ;)).

There could be a television show called मम त्रयः पुत्राः mama trayāḥ putrāḥ. Oh wait, there was an American tv show by that name in the 1960s (was this a little too irreverent, even for me?). But I think the Lord has a good sense of humor, considering what he did on the day of his wedding to Pārvatī. ;)

P.s. don't shoot me for having butchered the Sanskrit, I tried.
