*[I believe]The atheistic worldview is an absurd one. Why? Because *[I believe] the atheist views the world as ultimately meaningless and therefore as absurd.

*[bracketed red text = staff edit]

Some people mistakenly think that what they BELIEVE is always real.

ab·surd
əbˈsərd,əbˈzərd/
adjective
  1. (of an idea or suggestion) wildly unreasonable, illogical, or inappropriate.
    "the allegations are patently absurd"
    synonyms: preposterous, ridiculous, ludicrous, farcical, laughable, risible, idiotic, stupid, foolish, silly, inane, imbecilic, insane, harebrained, cockamamie;

As an atheist I do not believe the world or universe is any of those things.

Nice eye.
I agree with you.

Some people think that whatever they happen to believe is true.

Meaningless isn't a synonym for absurd. I also don't think the world is meaningless. But is a very logical and beautiful thing to behold, worthy of discovery and understanding. I just don't think there is a deity providing meaning.

I think it's the norm that religious people get their "meaning" from outside of themselves. They project their own values onto some anthropomorphic image that they then revere. I believe that this represents a more naive experience of reality.

What myths have I created?

Maybe he means "metaphor"... we look at a painting and then describe the experience in metaphors... if we tell a STORY about the painting.. as many people do ( as I do in art museums ), that's creating a myth.

You may not ever invent a story about an experience. I think you probably have the capacity for that. Most do.

Um neither, since morality is as made up as the meaning you give it.

:)

I think it would be more proper to say both.
We have our own set of moral principles, and then we live in societies, so we have to attend to the objective laws, too.
Crime and punishment go hand and hand when we live with others.

To deny that there are moral laws is to court punishment.

skl

A man on a mission
You believe something with no proof. You say no one has "substantial evidence" but I do, and I trust others who say they do too.
Then I hear the challenge to give you my proof. That is like asking a person who has seen a movie to play it for you. It is not possible.

Sorry but no comparison can be made because I can at least find the movie that was seen and see that it exists, it is real, I can see it....unlike an imagined object, person or god. When your mind has a strong emotional control on certain facets of your thinking and you join people of the same situation it becomes a mass delusion similar to a hard-line political belief. This usually only becomes a problem when families are negatively affected or violence and crimes are committed in the name of the ideology they embrace.

If you would be willing you CAN find it and see for yourself.
Sometimes a person is willing but before he finds it he stops searching.

How are you defining 'normal'? Most people aren't atheists.
Most people consider Earth's affairs or do not consider anything. My mind isn't on the Earth. To be considering what is happening out of this Earth is abnormal.

Why are you yelling in blood colored letters?

No, according to what I think I know religion does not consider such things. Religion causes discord. Heaven is for peace and everlasting life.

Are you yelling at me?

Religion STOPS the search for God. Doesn't it? I can explain why I think Religion stops the search but this is not the right thread for it.

This is semantics, and not necessarily even true. The religions generally deal with non-atheistic ideas.

That is not really what I was referring to. Religion is a very broad definition, it's used for religious beliefs, not merely doctrine , so forth.

Good discussion but, like I said, it isn't the thread for it.
