What are some favorite quotes of yours, from famous people, literature, movies, music, etc.???

one of my favorites comes from Teddy Roosevelt:

"Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat."

"This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness."

"Those who, while they disapprove of the character and measures of a government, yield to it their allegiance and support are undoubtedly its most conscientious supporters, and so frequently the most serious obstacles to reform."

Henry David Thoreau

There are so many quotes I love, most from Henry David Thoreau (whom I just love). Maybe I'll post some more later, but it would take me so much time to find them all, since I've loaned out all my copies of Thoreau's writings to aquaintances of mine. My signature is another example of a quote of his that I love.

"An appeaser is one who feeds the crocodile, hoping it will eat them last" is a good 'un by Winston Churchill. I think somebody on here has it as their signature.

Another good one is "Govern a country like you would fry a small fish, with care, with respect and with the least inervention" - Lao Tzu from the Tao Te Ching I think.

Here's my weed saying:

Weed: n. Any plant where I don't want it.

'No, no, don't you understand? We're not shaped by incidents, whatever stories and movies and TV always told us. We're made by a thousand little things, and incidental thoughts, and half-considered ideas. We're built up like bits of chewing gum stuck together into a ball, and only when it's big enough to recognise do we step back and see what a monster we've made.' - Mallory...'The Devil In Green'

Disciple of Light
For everything there is a season,
And a time for every matter under heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to seek, and a time to lose;
A time to keep, and a time to throw away;
A time to tear, and a time to sew;
A time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate,
A time for war, and a time for peace.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

John 1:5: This is the message which we have heard from him and announce to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name' sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: For thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;
Thou annointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.
